    To me last year was much more painful than this year.After 2003 I was so excited for 04. I think the Cubs had a better team last year. Once all the stuff about Chip and Stone came to light I got really fed up. I was embarased. Now I see them as just another medicore Cubs team. I still think they have the talent but I think it hasn't been used properly and now I think the team is shutting down on Dusty. A few more months of play like this and there is no way Dusty will be back next year. Hendry only said he was safe for the season, which is the logical thing to do given the number of games played. My prediction is that the Cubs finish well below .500 and Dusty is not back. Who they choose to replace him is what I am now fearing. No to: Little Brenley Speir

    There is a rumor here in NY that Brian Schneider is interested in reuniting with Omar Menia. I don't know what his contract status looks like though.

    I wonder why the Cubs couldn't have traded him. I know he is not a LOOGY, but if used properly he does have value.

    BS. That is not what Dusty said. He said Rothschild will adress it [the pitchers lack of fundamentals). It was his (Rothschild's) department. What does that say to you? To me it says, "hey it's not my responsibilty, it is Larry's". Everything a ball culb does on the field is the manager's responisbility. It sounds to me like you've never been a coach. But, I really wouldn't know becuase I don't make irresponsible assumptions.

    Exactly. "Hey, it's not my job, it is the pitching coach's job." Sorry Dusty it is your job. You are the manager, the team is a reflection of you.

    Right on wastra. It is not this game but a pattern of performance that has gone on for the better part of two seasons, regardless of the number on the back of the jersey.

    Rickey says "Rickey will get in. Did you forget about Rickey?" I'm guessing Gwynn and Ripken won't have any trouble, either. Gwynn and Ripken will be up next year. Maduux and Clemens won't be up for another 6 years at least. Ripken and Gwynn played the bulk of their games pre-strike. I think that is how baseball writers will break it down 1994-2005 will be known as the "steriod era".

    The Hawk is in my Hall of Fame. Who knows what kind of a carreer he would have had if he didn't play on the concrete like surface of Olympic Stadium for all those years.

    Brandon, What do you think about a bunch of Cub fanatics fron an internet site asking you a bunch of questions? Do you enjoy noteriety that comes with being a professional baseball player?     I think Robin Yount blows the "70's and 80's" shortstop myth. He led the majors in hits in the 80's.... And deservidly so, Yount is HOFer. What is your point? That Yount proves SS wasn't a weak hitting, mostly defensive position, for most of the 20th century? If that it your point then we will have to agree to disagree. Yount wasn't even a SS for his entire career. IIRC he had more ABs at CF then he did at SS.

    My prediction for the HOF is that after Maddux and Clemens there will be very few "steriod era" players to get in. I think the writers are going to be very tough on all of the current players when it comes their time.

    How can you say Murton is overhyped here? This is something I've read this a couple of times now and I don't get it. I don't know anyone who has tried to overhype him. All most people have done is simply point out that he is outperforiming Hollandworth and yet Hollandsworth continues to ge the balk of the playing time. Could you point out any instnaces where Murton is being overhyped

    I think if one compares Ozzy to the SS of today, he pales. But if one were to look at the SS or the 19070s and 1980s PR (pre-Ripken) he stands out as clearly the best of his generation. His offensive numbers were not that far off the league leaders for his position and his defense was very good and for a long time. If he played today he'd never make it, but he didn't. And I cannot penalize him for that.

    If you can't deny something, doesn't that mean that it's NOT arguable? LOL, no it means one cannot deny that he is among the best defensive CFer of his era, thus one can make an argument that he was the best defensive CFer of his era. I have never stuck up for Edmonds before and I feel......well.....dirty. :D

    Allthough Jimbo hot dog is no longer the best defensive CF, he once was, and was for at least 5 or 6 years. I cannot stand his hotdogishness but there is no denying he was ARGUABLY the best defensive CF of his generation and in his steriod filled era, a pretty good offensive one too. I hate to say it, but if I had a vote he probably would get in. But then again I'm not a stickler for the saving the hall for the best of the best. I think the Hall should be reserved for the best of each era (approx 15 years).

    My thoughts on the trade: Roll of the dice. I do think Hendry did the right thing in trying to bolster the mediocre offense, but there wasn't much out there. We'll see what happens from here until Oct. As a Cub fan, he does not a thing to get my hope up that I may see the Cubs play in the playoffs.

    If the Cubs offense "magically" turns around and become good and they make it to the playoffs I will gladly proclaim my stupidity to anyone who reads my posts -I'll put that in my signature

    I don't think getting Lawton represents anything special. To me the best that can be said is that Hendry changed one medicore player for another. Lawton hardly puts the Cubs over the top. Maybe I'm just being a little too pesimistic after this weekend but IMO Lawton changes nothing.

    You almost get the sense that if LA were to fire Tracy, and were to offer Baker the job, that Jim Hendry would gladly let him out of the final year, and would name Atlanta 3rd base coach Fredi Gonzalez the new skipper of the Cubs. I don't think there is any way Dusty Manages the Dodgers. 1. Depo is Billy Bean guy- The manager must be on the same page as the system. 2. LA is aware of Dusty's management "style" by virtue of the fact that he managed so many games against them over the years.

    appearently it is too much to ask that someone read before they start making acusations. Illini Iceman: I drove home from the store today on the wrong side of the road and I didn't get a ticket or into an accident, so becuase everything worked out ok it was the right thing to do. :joker:
