  1. Oh my Len, Michael Tucker. Matt Murton for Prez!
  2. over/under for how many people are posting in the "Dusty bad managerial thread" right now: 10 I'm taking the over
  3. I believe Kenny "fleece me" Williams is paying too much. Given the health of the pitching staff, I'm not sure if I'd give up that much pitching if I were the Cubs.
  4. If Branyan is the floor for Sing or Dopirak, then I think the Cubs have two real good prospects on their hands. Now, which one do they keep in 2008?
  5. I understand what you are saying but you also have to take into account the overall team the Cubs have. All things being equal I'd like to have power at every position, but as we all know that is not what the Cubs need. We have been harping about OBP all season when we haven't been harping on taking pitches or what terrible people LaTroy and Corey are. Long story short, Murton is exactly what the Cubs need right now. They need a guy to get on base infront of Lee et al. They don't need another Burnitz or similar player. Check that, a team always needs a big bopper but the issue at hand is OBP and Murton provides that.
  6. I was joking when I made that post Anyone see Dusty comments about Neffi yesterday?
  7. Murton has been given his shot he has excelled. End of the story. Todd meet bench. Bench, Todd. Get acquainted, you will be spending a lot of time together. That is what should happen. No platoon, and no comment needed. However, I'm sure Dusty has other ideas. It's a damn shame.
  8. It is becuause he loves Hollandsworth. Holly has been here Gerut hasn't. Holly "knows" the NL pitchers. Holly filled in for Sammy last year. Holly never swears. Holly. Holly. Holly. That is why.
  9. Nomar becomes a back up to Neffi. "Dude's gotta stay fresh"-Ficticious Dusty quote. With Neffi's timely hitting the last two days the possiblity of Cedeno ever seeing the ball field is pretty slim.
  10. I had it last year and the year before and I have it this year. I don't think I'll get it next year. first, you really have to have a high speed connection. Next, you probably shouldn't have any other programs running b/c it will be real choppy. Yes, it opens with Media Player. I thought the technology would get better but it hasn't. As far as I can tell they haven't done anything to improve the performance. Normally I have to start and stop it several times over the course of a game. Now I just listen via MLB.radio. Not having WGN on cable sucks.
  11. That is laughable. I think not.
  12. They're not? =; http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings?type=wild&br=5&year=2005&column=gamesBehind&order=false&st=2
  13. In the NL the Cubs are further out of the WC race than the Tigers are in the AL. Anyone think the Tigers have a shot at the WC? Not saying the Cubs should be sellers but if the right deal came along for Hollandsworth, Walker, Burnitz, Remlinger, Perez, Willams, or a few others I would do it.
  14. Because everyone else in this thread appears to be clairvoyant I give it a try too. I am gazing into my crystal baseball and this is what I see: Hendry wants to see if this team is good enough to stay in the race as it is currently put together. Also with Wood going on the DL for who knows how long he has had to re-adjust his trading chips (i.e., pitching prospects). In additon, Hendry thinks getting back Nomar and Willamson will be like making two big trades. Hendry will continue to assess the situation but he feels that the team doesn't need all that much, they just need to get consistent. Finally, Hendry is becoming exacerbated with Dusty's refusal to use Cedeno and Murton. However, he is left with little choice but to let Dusty manage, b/c that is what he is paid to do. Oh, and Hendry really likes the Strawberry crepes he is eating this morning, and the coffee has just the right amount of sugar and half and half. The ball is becomming fuzzy now as I am loosing connections. And it's gone. So that is it for now.
  15. Good point. I could see Hendry making a deal for Pierre and Mota. I wouldn't necessarily like it, but I could see it.[/i]
  16. Dude, BK actually showed what you were saying to be non-factual. How about trying to insert some facts into your theory? Balance to the force is for movies. Present a plausable case for what fundamental skills Pierre would bring. He takes bad routs to balls but is able to make up for it by his speed (sometimes). It has already been demonstrated that his OBP is negatively affected by his CS. That doesn't "sound" fundamentally sound to me. Pierre will cost too much in money and prospects for my taste.
  17. OML, check out the numbers Dimitri's "little" brother put up in the Southern League  Will Tampa find some way to screw him up? How would it be if the Cubs had Tampa's young talent? Upton, Crawford, Young, Kazmir, Bankston
  18. I'd say an average whip would be around 1.3 or so. league average for SP: WHIP 1.38 ERA 4.34 Just thought i'd throw those numbers out there. I realize league average is different than a "good" WHIP or comparing it to a 3.00 ERA...not sure how to compare the two. Generally, WHIP and ERA are complimentary stats, not comparitve. If a pitcher has a relatively high WHIP and a relatively low ERA you can make some inferences about him which may or may not be accurate. For example, the pitcher is probably a ground ball pitchers who gets DPs or he could be a K pitcher (although that is less likely). He could be a pitcher who is good at pitching into and out of jams. If he has a high ERA and a low WHIP one could say he is probably a fly ball pitcher who gets tagged for a lot of dingers. When I evaluate a reliever I like to look at WHIP instead of ERA. I also look at the number of inherited runners that score too.
  19. If you are talking about defense only, there is more than enough evidence to convince me that whomever is catching has littlle influence on the outcome of a game. Barrett over Blanco.
  20. I love this thread. Keep 'em comming guys. here is mine. Do you have aspirations to make it to the big leagues one day? I hear Mr. Met only has two years left on his contract.
  21. Pardon me, but I think the question should be changed to Hollandsworth or Murton in the outfield. Murton every day. And Dusty coaching elsewhere. He has to go.
  22. [brown nose]Nice post tripple B!. Kind of sums everything up. Adam Dunn is not Babe Ruth. Nobody said he was even Barry Bonds or Derrek Lee. However, he so clearly fits a glaring need for the Cubs it is damn near impossible not to recognize.[/brown nose] Mr/Mrs. Troll recognized the hot debate that is Dunn and is now getting his jollies somewhere else. All the best to you, wherever you are.
  23. Provide an example of a player who does get a lot of RBI that is not a HR hitter. In other words, you could say that about anyone. Nevermind the fact that he is on pace to have a second consecutive 100 RBI season.
  24. No my friend that is pretty convincing evidence he was a troll. Whatever. I'm done with this nonsense. What evidence? Why is it such a secret? This isn't Watergate and we're not talking about Woodward and/or Bernstein. GO BACK AND RE-READ HIS POSTS First he posted the thread title as a fact not a rumor. Californiarasian101 then changed the title to reflect that it was indeed a rumor. Then in the post he claims to know someone that knows someone. Classic trollish post. Then he is gone for a while and comes back with enough information to keep the thread going. In the meantime he never posted in another thread, check his posting history. One does not have to be a genius to spot this jackass for who he really is. There is no secret. We've seen this stuff dozens of times. Trolling is just getting more sophisticated. I was on the ESPN.com website for years and this kind of stuff would happen all the time. The MO is the same just the particulars are different. This one was dressed up. Although I have no proof I fully believe that the rumor started here. Miles picked it up made a few inquiries and it moved on from there. It is all cirucular one story/question feeds the next and so on. Believe what you want.
  25. No my friend that is pretty convincing evidence he was a troll. Whatever. I'm done with this nonsense.
