    Present one example. Just one. See the problem is that you and some others have a problem with people criticizing the Cubs. There is nothing chicken little about it. People questioned why Prior was being held out of games. You and some others made statements to the effect that those people were being overly cirticial. What happens next, low and behold Prior comes up with a shoulder strain. But we are supposed to believe that nothing was wrong with him before that. Dusty has a track record of looking over poor play by "proven veterns" yet keys on poor play by minor leaguers. Time will tell what Dusty will do. Untill then it is better to come up with your own argument why you belive what you do rather than point out the faults of people who post here. The second post of this thread. Not even close.

    Thanks Bruce. Not the first time posters have ignored the whole story, and only focused on the part that fits their agenda. What adgenda is that? It is about time for this stuff to stop. Only time will tell what Dusty will do.

    Cedeno was the freaking rookie of the year in his league this winter. All he has done is hit since working with Vaughn Joshua. A handfull of ABs in spring training will not change the fact that Neifi isn't a good alternative. If they don't like Cedeno, fine, but find someone else to fill the position. Cedeno is pressing, that is obvious. Instead of pointing out that Dusty should say something like, "Ronny is my guy. Look, the kid hit lights out this winter and last year he was on fire in AAA. I'm not worried about Ronny. I think his main problem is he is trying a little too hard. A few ABs this spring isn't going to change the fact that this kid is a good young player." In the interest of fairness Dusty did say something about Murton and Cedeno being too serious. Well Dusty, I would be damn serious if I too were trying to break in the majors with a club managed by you.

    I think they will keep him. Wurtz is having a terrible spring and with the uncertainty with the starting pitching they would be foolish to trade him. However, if the right deal came along they might go for a trade.

Sounds to me like he is clearly giving the job to somebody other than Walker, most likely Hairston with a healthy dose of Neifi, but leaving a slight opening for more Walker playing time if he's around. I highly doubt the Cubs are going to start a guy they are obviously so desperate to dump. You could be right, but if Walker is on the team (and I don't he will be) I cannot see how the Cubs could keep Walker on the bench. To me it just seems so ludicrous. Neither Hairston nor Neifi are as good an everyday player as Walker. I just don't get it???

    I dont really think the qoute is all that cryptic. IMO he is saying, "if Walker is here he will be my 2nd man. However, I don't think Walker will be here so I am hedging my bets by saying what I am saying"

    Did the trade happen or is this still speculation? If it did happen, I think this is a good deal for Boston, but a pretty fair trade. However, if Pena lives up to his potential it could be a real steal for Boston. Big Poppi better teach him some plate discipline though.

    The article can be found here. edit - He also includes this link to help explain Prior's injury. What Carrol wrote is exactly what I expect to happen. Prior will be lucky to make five starts and he will go under the knife at some time this season. Then we will get to hear about injuries and their unpredictable nature from the Cubs front office and field manager. Whoopie!

    I'm not sure if I am reading your post the right way, but Baker was criticized in SF for pulling his starting pitchers too soon and burning up his pen. I think that criticism coupled with the less than stellar bullpen performance has, in a way, contributed to the ills in the pitching department (i.e, overuse of both the SP and select bullpen arms). so because he pulled his starters too soon in sf our starters are overworked? i don't know if i understand what you are getting at. In a way that is exactly what I'm getting at. Baker is notoriusly thin skinned. Now I don't know know if that is THE reason, but he certainly has worked the starting pitchers. I also agree about his misuse of the pen too. It seems to me that Baker is not good at managing a pitching staff. Before Fox's arm nearly literally fell off I think he pitched three days in a row. We all know about his fetish for righty/lefty matchups. And then there is his usage patterns of Farnsworth and others while leaving some guys to rot in the pen. Overall, he is just not good at what he does.

    Nothing positive can come from an injury to the shoulder, you just have to hope it's nathing major at this stage. It appears to be "minor", not sure how any injury to the shoulder is really minor though. I wasn't counting on Wood for anything this year. Now I'm not counting on Prior for much ether. It helps to lower my expectations. Lowered expectations is a Cub fan's best friend.

    -I don't give it much credence. I think Hendry felt by acquiring Miller that he was getting extra. Myguess is that the Cubs will do what they have said; go with a 4-man rotation and work in a minor league arm when the 5th spot is needed (unless Prior is able to pitch by April 15th). I concur. It is a little early to hit the panic button. Besides, Wood and Miller should be ready by May, Prior too. If Wood and Miller can stay healthy the Cubs will have a formitable rotation. Plus they also have Guzman, Marshall, Hill, and perhaps Ryu who can step in. Unless Hendry knows something we don't (actually he probably know a lot more than us) I don't see the Cubs getting some filler pitcher before they know how things are going to shake out.

    I don't really have a strong feeling for him, one way or the other. I think it's interesting that not ONE critic of Pierre commented on these numbers. The main reason is because those stats have no bearing whatsoever on the converstation. They were illustritive that Pierre saw pitches and made contact, nothing else.
