  1. Ducks aren't a stat....yet. I'd say WHIP, ERA+, k/9 and BAA are good ones. The best is probably ERA+ Co-sign. I agree 100%. I like K/9 to show how dominant a pitcher can be. I believe there isn't a single stat that can tell you everything. I agree with USSocer and Raw. I also like to look at K:BB and GB:FB.
  2. What if McGuire and Sosa say they didn't do steriods? It sounds to me like you've already convicted them. What about other players, Termell Sledge, Palmerio, and the dozen or so minor leaguers who have been caught?
  3. Joe Jackson and the rest of the Sox who threw the 1919 WS weren't suspended from baseball untill 1921. ------------------ Doesn't Disney also own the Braves? If so this really isn't an independent investigation.
  4. Plus what the mother would make at her job, she is obviously working if there is daycare involved. Remember, this is child support and not spousal maintenance we are talking about, they were never married so I don't think there is anykind of alimony, although I am sure the mother spent a chunk of the money on herself, because if the money was just used for the daughter's benefit, there should be plenty of money for her school, car, computer, her own house, etc...... Depends on how the money is used. If the money is used to buy a nicer house in a better neighborhood so that the child is safer and can attend better schools then why not. Are you kidding me? He is paying almost $6,000 a month. Go to realtor.com and see what kind of house that buys. Let's just cut it in half and say $3,000. That is a $500,000 dollar house.
  5. Because HE IS HER FATHER. Just because your parents shafted you doesn't mean everyone else should suffer. 70 g's @ year plays for a lot of braces and barbie dolls. And $16MM a year will pay for a lot of CC. That is neither here nor there. How much money should a one night stand get to raise a kid? How much should the lady get if it were you instead of him? Just because he is stupid rich doesn't not entitle the mother to win the lottery. Johnson should pay his fair share of her upbringing. I'd say $70,000 @ year ($5,833.33/month) for 18 years seem like a fair share to me (1.26 million).

  7. I agree. It sounds to me like the mother was more than happy to keep him away from them in the beginning (16 years ago when he was a nobody), then started going after his money when he got rich. Randy is no saint (and this story has come out before), but the mother playing the "poor victim" here doesn't fly. I'm a firm believe in parents paying for their children's education, but that shady day care as a teen could have paid for community college. Agreed. I am not sure why Randy is being slammed here. If you read between the lines, it looks like the mother is using her kid to get more cash. While I do not agree with Randy's decision not to be part of the child's life, I wasn't there so I don't know the real circumstances. If he is paying his fair share (relative to his salary) to support her, the rest is between him, his concious, and his G-d. Join
  8. Exactly. It's as if it is an actual position on the field. "Hey what position do you play?" "Lead off hitter" I guess one could do that in the American League.
  9. It seems like we agree on him. One thing that is strange is that he's hit 4 HR's in 37 AB's in the spring while only hitting 15 in 2048AB's over his career. Granted spring training number don't mean much but I wonder if there is anything behind that (change of approach, hitting mechanics, etc..) or if it's just dumb luck. Arizona weather. Pagan is not a guy I want to see on the bench for the Cubs THIS YEAR. IMO They need someone with some pop. I'd prefer Sing or Restovich. Pagen might make a good 5th outfielder but the Cubs need someone capeable of hitting a HR on the bench.
  10. What is the opposite of that? Guys who have done nothing in the minors then turned into Carlos Beltran? Just because a guy hasn't played in the majors doesn't mean you can't have a pretty good idea of what his limitations will be in the majors. Of course not. The opposite is a player who comes into the League with little or no expectations (or strictly as a backup) but proves his worth when he's able to play everyday. He doesn't have to develop into Beltran to have value. Minor League productivity doesn't always equate to ML success. see gary scott & rosey brown to mention a few You are completly turning your arguement on it's head. We are not talking about a guy with great minor league numbers here. We are talking about a washout who was purchased for next to nothing. He had a good spring and people have compared him to: Carlos Beltran Scott Podsednik Eric Gange Tori Hunter
  11. Let the dream die, Pagen is not good. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/angel-pagan.shtml Did Angel Pagen run over your dog? Here's to hoping he does turn into Carlos Beltran, but he probably won't. No he didn't run of my dog. But he is not good. All I'm trying to do is show that. Keep hope alive, keep hope alive.
  12. Let the dream die, Pagen is not good. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/angel-pagan.shtml Edit: At age 24 D-Lee put up this line for the FLORIDA MARLINS .281 .368 .507 28 HRs and 70 RBI
  13. This guy is not good, he's never been good, and he will never be as good as Carlos Beltran. Every year there is a guy nobody heard of who lights up spring training. Every year. Pagen has had five seasons in the minors and only managed to hit in the low .270s with an OBP in the low .300s. In that time he has hit 15 HRs IN THE MINOR LEAGUES. He will be 25. When Carlos Betran was 24 he hit .307, had an OBP of .389, and a .900 OPS for the KC Royals. And oh year, he also had 26 HRs and 100 RBI. I know Carlos Beltran, Angel Pagen is no Carlos Beltran. He is a career minor leaguer who had a good spring.
  14. I'll take it with whatever. A side order of grilled onions? Grilled onions are good. Keilty would make a great 4th outfielder, but not at the cost of Ryu, Marshall, Guzman or Pie. I'd give them Sing or Dope though.
  15. I'll take it with whatever.
  16. I agree with you and UK, Cuse. Given that he is not an option, I'd rather go with Restovich.
  17. What about the PRIOR IS NOT AN INJURY RISK one? O:)
  18. No there are a lot of players who can bring: 1. a good work ethic 2. a good clubhouse presence 3. a job knowing abilitiy Heck, I'll do that and for the league minimum. What I hope Pierre brings is a +.350 OBP. The rest I could care less about. Exactly. I dont care if he "knows his job" i dont care that he's a "good clubhouse presence". I'll go back to my old standby "Babe ruth and lou gehrig didnt talk for 5 years, yet batted back to back, and things turned out pretty well" Chemistry and all these "intangibles" are bogus. Give me a .350+ OBP out of my leadoff guy and i'll be happy. I take it you guys are big fans of T.O. then. Does he have a +.350 OBP?
  19. He stunk to start the season. That is why ST doesn't matter. They don't which is why he would have made the team if he showed anything this spring. .278 .334 .373 and a whopping 15 HRs in five seasons. He stinks. Pagen is no defensive specialist and he can't hit. What exactly is he good at? Oh, yea he is fast and looks good in a uniform. He Can't Hit He was relseased by the Mets after five subpar seasons. At least Restovich has power.
  20. No, those numbers don't mean a thing actually. Using them to determine who makes it is just as good as arbitrarily pulling a name out of a hat. They absolutely should count when comparing him to Grissom for a bench spot. It's "what have you done for me lately." ST numbers should have less impact when evaluating Pagan WRT Theriot and Restovich, but if someone shows they can put out when the pressure is on, that has to count for something. ST counts for so little it is hard to measure. Remember Nomar's spring last year? That is but one example. Half the time these guys are playing against worse players then thay are. As in most area's, size matters. Grissom was on the team to see if he still had anything left. I was painfully obvious he didn't. If he would have put up just a little better numbers he would have made the team. Pagen stinks and has no power. All he has is speed. Restovich stinks but he has power. In instances like these one has to choose between the greater of two 25th man.
  21. Although he appears to have a tad bit more power, I basically agree. I'd much rather have Restovich or Sing on the bench, at least they have a chance to go yard. To me Pagen is another "toolsy" guy who has impressed b/c we haven't seen him play much and don't know much about him. If he were a Cub prospect I think many of us would think differently. His career line in the minors looks like this: .278 .334 .373 and a whopping 15 HRs in five seasons. Not much to get excited about, IMO.
  22. I'm not quite sure how trading Wellemeyer to the Marlins is indicative of the team's desire to win. But it's a good thing they won't be tempted to keep him around just based ono his options status. I hate when teams make personel decisions based on non-baseball factors. Todd has some interesting stuff, but he walks far too many, and gets rocked from time to time. Good luck to him. Hopefully one of these guys can turn into a reliever down the road. With Florida trading for so many prospects, I could actually see them start trading some of these guys for players like Wellemeyer (minimum wage guys with major league experience). I said that because this team's cutting the obvious trash right out the gate, and not doing stupid things like keep someone around because of running out of options. That's indicative of a different franchise attitude. Wellemeyer looked abysmal all spring. He needed to go. I hope that means Grissom is gone. Too bad they won't cut Jones lose.
  23. Data please?
  24. There is already a thread on this in Rivals.
