  1. Charlie Weis starts every day before 5 am and has recruited three straight great classes to Notre Dame. But yeah, he's lazy. I'll just assume you have some inside info, but what does getting up at 5am have to do with anything? The results speak for themselves. With all the supposed talent he can't win.
  2. Weis's main problem is that he's not motivated himself. He looks lazy and his teams play that way.
  3. Marquis has value to a team that needs a bottom of the rotation starter and isn't strapped for cash. That leaves out a lot of teams though. I'd think he'd be on the block for the third team. I'm thinking nothing is going to get done with Peavey until the free agency period gets sorted out. If the Yankees or another contending team needs another starter and they have some mid level minor league starting pitching that is pretty good that may be the Ménage à trois the Cubs need.
  4. I don't think he's in the hunt any longer not matter what happens. However, his only hope is to get this cleared up as soon as possible. He either needs to admit to a mistake and pay the fine (its not a criminal offense, yet) or to get the hearing moved up to ASAP. It's terrible timing for something that happened two years ago, but he had to know it was coming.
  5. What do the Floridas, Washingtons, San Franciscos, hell even the Pittsburghs really care? Even a good team in the NL shouldn't care if the GM is making the deal to make his team better.
  6. Baseball also has a season (roughly) twice as long as the other bigs. There should be significantly less teams. I'd bet a lot of money that in my lifetime there will be playoff expansion. I'll argue against it every step of the way. I tend to agree. There is no reason that a 84 win team that hasn't won it's division should be in a "playoff" for who is the best team in MLB. They've proved over the course of 162 games that they shouldn't be in the discussion. It gets a little dicy when a team that hasn't won it's division but has a better record than a team who has and is left out though. I guess the only way to correct that is to go to a two team playoff. The World Series winner should be the best team or close to it, not the team playing the best at the end of the year (or for 13 games).
  7. I don't think Scarlett Johannsen is attractive.
  8. Does anyone know the accuracy of any of these forecasting instruments? I'm not sure they are worth the time it takes to do them.
  9. Judging from the following he's had in the games I went to I'd say the answer to that question is a resounding yes. I'm sure his teammates have also enjoyed the overflow too.
  10. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/111808dnbuscuban.1c00744a4.html They're going for the political attack angle. If I'm Cuban I pay the fine and move on with my life. It looks like a pretty clear case of adventitious inside information being used here. I sounds like Cuban sunk a bunch of money in this internet venture and then when they came back asking for more and using the method they did he tried to wash his hands of the entire business. The problem is it is not fair to all the other investors.
  11. That's crazy. Where would you get this idea from?
  12. We'll deserved.
  13. It's my understanding that Peavy doesn't wish/need to be traded. It's the Padres who have to get rid of him. He's going to get traded, it just matters to whom and for what. Both the Braves and the Cubs know this and so does every other team too. For the life of me I cannot understand why Towers didn't pull the trigger with the Braves unless Peavy really did tell them he wouldn't go (DonnieD's info). Anyway, The Cubs offer is pretty bad for a pitcher of his calibre, but if they're patient they just might get him, at least I'm hoping so.
  14. I've only seen a handful of games in which he's played but in those games I can think of more than one occasion where he made a great defensive play at 2nd. I don't know if he could handle SS or not though.
  15. I'm Kurt Russell but the one in Escape from New York not the one In Tango & Cash.
  16. Yeah, I know it's Sullivan, so take it for what it's worth. The saga continues... That's what I expected all along. I should start a blog or something.
  17. This is so much like the Roberts thread. At first I think people were making a joke, but the joke's on us.
  18. Neither are mediocre relievers who can't throw strikes and have bloated salaries Kevin Gregg is virtually Farnsworth's twin when the Cubs got rid of him, maybe a little worse. http://www.fangraphs.com/comparison.aspx?playerid=278&playerid2=1793&playerid3=&position=P&page=2&type=full
  19. The ball may be in Hendry's court but I don't think he's ever really been in the game. [conspiracy theory] I think Towers was using the Cubs to try to get more out of the Braves and Hendry kind of went along with it. I mean come on, Marshall, Cedeno, and whatall else for Peavy? Especially in relation to what he was trying to get from the Braves.[/conspiracy theory] It just doesn't add up. But stranger things have happened.
  20. The Cubs are trapped. Either they pay Wood, they let some of the younger guys take the ball, or they trade a middling prospect for the likes of Gregg. All and all, I'd try to keep wood, but not for 4 years. However, THE very last thing I'd do is trade for Gregg. He's going to push Marmol to the 9th eventually b/c he's going to blow too many save chances.
  21. ibanez is only athletic in the sense that he is a professional athlete. Here's to hoping Hendry can "wow" the Marlins for Hermida because, there's no benefit to wasting money on Ibanez. ibanez is second on my list after hermida...he has solid numbers and would really bring some solid production to the lineup...i don't understand the dislike for ibanez His age. i can understand that, but who else would you rather have besides him? realistically Realistically, in order: Bradley and then Hermida. I really like Bradley and to me a perfect offseason would be to get: Bradley or Hermida, Furcal and Peavy. I would be thrilled get those guys even though it's probably unlikely. Bradley is the man of glass. I hate the Cubs sometimes. Their fetish for minutia is disturbing and probably a good reason why they haven't won a WS in 100 years. Leadoff man Left handed power bat Athletic It's just maddening. Why not try to find the best player available?
  22. I'm fired up. They could televise MiLB games, winter league games, cape cod league games, AFL games. It's a baseball fan's dream. Hopefully they don't go into ESPN squeeze every game except the Red Sox and Yankees into three second chops mode for their highlight show.
  23. If he signed with the Giants he'd have a lot of games pitching in pitcher friendly parks. Against mostly crappy teams.
