i think all it does is free montgomery to play the swing role again and make spot starts without relying solely on wilson for left-handed relief when monty is starting. I think if The Cubs get Darvish or bring back Jake Montgomery is traded.

There is no reason to do it, but I'd almost punt this season if it meant getting Harper next year. Who needs a TOR pitcher anyway?

absolutely the events are just crazy and fun enough to justify watching something I don't actually care about. the summer olympics is none of that The events are also frankly more dangerous which makes watching pretty fun. Ski cross, for example, is horsefeathering bonkers. Do they still do the luge where at any second somebody could get killed? I agree the winter Olympics are better for watching and the sports are just way cooler. The biathlon is awesome.

This offseason has a mid 1980s collusion feel to it. It could just be the contrast in quality from this years class to next years, but I can’t remember a time with so little movement this late in the off-season.

With half of the guys on that list that are late in their careers or retired (and all but a few with WARs under 10), if you traded them around their age 24 or 25 season, you'd be trading them at peak value. With half of them, you'd regret it unless you got some exceptional value in return. That list doesn't really convince me to hold or trade. For 1 guaranteed year of Manny or just in general?

But then nothing would preclude the Cubs from signing Machado instead and trading Russell then. Or just keep Russel and Machado and move KB to left. That's true, but I think there would be a better chance of extending Machado (after being on the team) than bidding on him as a FA. Why?
