  1. General impressions from SB That was the most well attended minor league game I’ve ever been to. Wicks was not overpowering but very good. Aside from the HR and a pull double down the line, lots of ground balls and soft contact. He was 91-93 on his fastball but his off speed pitches were outstanding. He got no help from the catcher. Their lead off batter Beasley went 3-3 with a walk. He might not be a prospect, but he looked good. Cassie was not impressive at all. I don’t know if it’s the uniform, but he was kind bowling pen shaped. He Stands upright in the box and does the Rizzo hip thing. Pinango has a quick bat, both his HRs were pulled. The Cubs team was clearly a better overall team than Fort Wayne. The HR in the first inning was their offense. Hassell went HR, ground out, walk, K.
  2. Pinaugo (sp?) is having a game. 2 HR, one of them a grand slam.
  3. The homer was hit by Padres top prospect Robert Hassell. He’s hitting.360
  4. The SB Cubs catcher is very bad.
  5. Lol, at the SB cubs game. There is easily 10K people here, but only about 500 in the stands. Wicks Kd the first guy who got on b/c apparently the catcher isn’t very good. The next dude who is huge took him deep. The third batter who was also huge like linebacker got plunked. Not a good start. He got out of it with a k and a pickoff.
  6. You can’t make team of replacement players. Maybe you make a bullpen out of them, but not an entire team. So we should overpay Contreras because the rest of the team sucks? Overpay, what the horsefeathers does that mean? Fair market value for a top echelon catcher? If that’s overpaying, yes.
  7. He’ll be on the 2026 Cubs in September hitting meatballs from teams that are also no longer in contention and Obvious Shirts will make a “We got Balls” tshirt or some horsefeathers. And 2027 he’ll be the starting first baseman on a team filled with replacement level players. I’ve seen this story before.
  8. Contreras is 30. Since 2017, his first year as a full time member of the Cubs, he's third in PAs for catchers, behind Realmuto and Grandal (who both put up roughly twice as much value in that time frame, but I digress). He's been catching in the organization since 2009. I love the guy, though realistically we're talking about a guy who maxed out at 2.6 fWAR and was not Kyle Schwarber in terms of postseason awesomeness. But someone is going to give him 4-5 years, and it should not be us. You can’t make team of replacement players. Maybe you make a bullpen out of them, but not an entire team.
  9. Solidarity Sneaky.
  10. Thompson had a pretty good 4 inning start today. He didn’t miss many bats but he looked good.
  11. Good win. Wilson is the man.
  12. They are so bad at the small things.
  13. I will say that Boog and Suttcliffe have better rapport than Boog and JD. I get a feeling JD doesn’t care for him.
  14. Givens giving taters out.
  15. Hosmer always looks like someone told him a mildly funny joke just before he stepped into the box. And he just hit HR.
  16. Effross pitched masterfully in that inning. He should bring back a good teenager in a trade.
  17. Catchers interference brings in a run.
  18. Cubs making dumb decisions on defense.
  19. I'm sorry, I can't help myself. Suttcliffe going full Santo-Brant Brown on Vargas.
  20. He looks like he’s 15-20 pounds overweight. He was never a super in shape dude but he looks bigger than normal. Yes, I don't remember him being this girthy before. I assumed it was due to extra clothing in the cold weather, but not in the Whale's Vagina.
  21. Suttcliffe calls a HR for Villar and he strikes out on three ptiches.
  22. Heyward with a single. Cubs up 5-2. All with 2 outs.
  23. And Frankie laces a ball off the wall. Nice follow of the breaking ball.
  24. Where is JD? On vacation I assume.
  25. Frank batting a cool .189
