  1. It's not a nefarious plot; it's their pattern. I think the Ricketts/Jed are content to offer what they believe is a fair value contract moving forward with an eye to what they think is going to happen after the lockout. I think they believed that if they signed Bregman, he'd not a Cub after 2026.
  2. They were 6 million less on Scott. The Dodgers also gave him $20 million up front and $20 million deferred. They were 10 million less on Bergman, AAV, and gave him an opt-out after 2026. The Red Sox gave him an opt-out and paid him $10 million more. Can we say they were serious? From a conceptual standpoint, I suppose.
  3. You're arguing a position not taken. The fact that they signed Swanson in no way negates the pattern of their behavior. And I don't necessarily think they will let Tucker walk without a significant play for him.
  4. The Ricketts are using the Cubs to finance Wrigleyville and Nazis.
  5. I'm not following this point at all. Given how little money is guaranteed beyond 2026, suggests it's a pattern. The goal is to be in a better bargaining position for free agents/extensions post-strike/lockout. You are talking about a guy/family who, with a straight face, said, "We just want to break even every year".
  6. It's time to start the separation. At this time, good teams tend to step on the gas, so to speak, and put the mediocre and bad teams in the rearview mirror. Lodolo is a good pitcher so this will be a test.
  7. I think you are wish-casting. They know his agent. They have a very good idea of his value. I think they will make a "fair" offer and try to get creative or whatever on the accounting. But if LA, NYY, or NYM want him, that's where he will play. I am entirely convinced the Ricketts are looking to win the upcoming labor dispute in 2027. They don't want to have a lot of contracts because they will be in a better negotiating position after the strike is over.
  8. They will have a number. The number will be their number. And that's it. If he can get more, he will be gone. Will it be a "competitive number"? Probably. But if we know one thing about them, it's that they don't move once they think they've maxed out. Jed doesn't seem to mind the AAV, but he minds the years. He echoes the Ricketts sentiment of not wanting to get into bad contracts over many years. They will only sign guys to "fair" or "team-friendly" deals. They won't sign a player if they know he'll be worth significantly less than they pay for two or three years. It's not their DNA. They don't seem to care about winning as much as they do making horsefeathers tons of money, that's why they have Jed. They don't seem to mind losing their shirts on ****** hotels and sports books. But that's what they have the Cubs for, to balance the books for them.
  9. lol, that is real, real bad.
  10. They aren't selling anything. It's the most significant source of passive income they've ever had.
  11. I’m just gonna say this, I expected Matthew Boyd’s arm to fall off two months ago. im officinally apologizing to Jed.
  12. I think I recall reading a study conducted at MiLB parks, which found no appreciable difference.
  13. Best Horton game of the year. He had control of his pitches. He's growing by leaps and bounds. They are going to need him to step up in the playoffs.
  14. Are we grading on the Cubs, we just want to compete curve (TM)? No, then D- They addressed the bench, they got a pen arm, and they got another starter. They didn't get what they needed, but they probably marginally improved. Just getting rid of Pressley was addition by subtraction.
  15. I think this is a great point. I know a lot of people were saying this means the Cubs aren't resigning Tucker b/c they didn't make a big trade. I'm not sure if they will re-sign him, but if they do, they should finalize the deal quickly during the offseason. Then they can look for deals when trade prices are lower in the offseason.
  16. I’m thinking this is part of the Ricketts grand strategy of having low low payroll for the long strike they know is coming. They’re playing the long game with Jed as a willing participant. Suckers are going to show up at Wrigley anyway.
