    Even though he seems like a Cub killer, I have no interest in Suarez. He's such a streaky hitter. If he goes into a cold streak to end the year, he's not much better than Shaw.

    Is it still five years to judge? I'd say it depends on who the prospects are in that year's draft that the team drafted. Like if you draft a high upside HS pitcher in round 1, a polished college position player in round 2, and a 4-year college pitcher in round 3. For the latter two, you should have a good idea of what you have in three years. In the later rounds (6-20), the bust rate is so high across the board that it seems somewhat unfair to judge unless a team has multiple hits across multiple years.

    The Cubs always do their own thing in the draft, but this was the most Cubs doing their own thng in the draft that I can remember since the Hendry days.

    Lol, they seem to know what they are doing, so I guess? I'm all in. Draft every hurt kid who has a good scouting report before he got hurt.

    I was listening to MLB radio this morning on my way to work, and I cannot understand how Steve Phillips maintains a position in the world of baseball in any capacity. They were talking about Francona's 2,000 win as a manager and what a great communicator he is, and blah, blah, blah. And then Phillips mentions that he passed over Francona for Art horsefeathers Howe to manage the Mets when he was the GM. And he was bragging about it, and not in a self-deprecating way.

    I'm not saying anything about this pick, but i would also like to point out that, "The model" is a judgment aide and shouldn't be used in place of the judgment of experts.

    My hypothesis is the Cubs think the draft is weak this year and are saving money up front to take big swings later on.
