  1. It’s obviously pitching, but that’s true for most other teams too. if Shaw can handle major league heat he’s going to be a 4A player. So I’d say upgrading at 3rd is a need as well.
  2. I think regression might be a way to look at it, but as the saying goes, the season is a grind. I look at who they are playing. A good team should play around .500 against other good teams and around .650/700 against lesser teams. The Cubs have held their own against the good teams and taken care of the weaker teams before June, but I think injuries and roster construction are now affecting them. Or it could be just the natural ebb and flow of the season. It's most important that they get into the playoffs and that they are playing well at the end of the season.
  3. They purposefully construct a team each year to be mediocre. We can argue about the reasons, but that doesn't change the outcome. I don't know exactly how much blame to assign to whom, but I'd be willing to bet that whether Jed stays or goes, the team will be mediocre moving forward unless they hit on some draft picks and/or international players. To have an argument or whatever, I consider 88 wins mediocre. Bad = > 82 Mediocre = 83-90 Contender = above 90 That doesn't preclude them from hitting 90th percentiles and making the playoffs or even winning a WS due to the nature of the format, but it's not what they should be doing given their resources.
  4. Whoever said the Cubs need some guys in the pen who can miss bats hit the proverbial nail on its proverbial head.
  5. I know it’s deadly hot but that is about as empty a park as I’ve ever seen for a Cubs/Cards game
  6. Boy that kid for the Brewers looks like he’s going to be special
  7. They need pitching at the deadline and right now, as well.
  8. Is he less or more likely to get traded at the deadline? It would’ve been great if they locked up Tucker making OWNKC or Alcantara easily traded. I tend to be a prospect hugger, so I’d rather they keep him at least until the offseason and see what happens.
  9. The ball is flying out of Wrigley. They have to find some bat missers and Pressley aint it.
  10. I kind of have my hope on a pitcher in the first round. I like Bremmer, but I trust them. They usually nail the first pick.

I'm a believer in Christian Hernandz. After seven, it's a toss-up with a lot of these guys. With graduation, it looks rough with a lot of hope for development.
  12. Giants play the Red Sox this weekend. I may have to watch those games. Both teams’ broadcasters are great.
  13. Crazy. That’s a lot of salary.
  14. The Cubs have a real opportunity in these next two (division) series to put the division away for all practical purposes.
