  1. I think you are wish-casting. They know his agent. They have a very good idea of his value. I think they will make a "fair" offer and try to get creative or whatever on the accounting. But if LA, NYY, or NYM want him, that's where he will play. I am entirely convinced the Ricketts are looking to win the upcoming labor dispute in 2027. They don't want to have a lot of contracts because they will be in a better negotiating position after the strike is over.
  2. They will have a number. The number will be their number. And that's it. If he can get more, he will be gone. Will it be a "competitive number"? Probably. But if we know one thing about them, it's that they don't move once they think they've maxed out. Jed doesn't seem to mind the AAV, but he minds the years. He echoes the Ricketts sentiment of not wanting to get into bad contracts over many years. They will only sign guys to "fair" or "team-friendly" deals. They won't sign a player if they know he'll be worth significantly less than they pay for two or three years. It's not their DNA. They don't seem to care about winning as much as they do making horsefeathers tons of money, that's why they have Jed. They don't seem to mind losing their shirts on ****** hotels and sports books. But that's what they have the Cubs for, to balance the books for them.
  3. lol, that is real, real bad.
  4. They aren't selling anything. It's the most significant source of passive income they've ever had.
  5. I’m just gonna say this, I expected Matthew Boyd’s arm to fall off two months ago. im officinally apologizing to Jed.
  6. I think I recall reading a study conducted at MiLB parks, which found no appreciable difference.
  7. Best Horton game of the year. He had control of his pitches. He's growing by leaps and bounds. They are going to need him to step up in the playoffs.
  8. Are we grading on the Cubs, we just want to compete curve (TM)? No, then D- They addressed the bench, they got a pen arm, and they got another starter. They didn't get what they needed, but they probably marginally improved. Just getting rid of Pressley was addition by subtraction.
  9. I think this is a great point. I know a lot of people were saying this means the Cubs aren't resigning Tucker b/c they didn't make a big trade. I'm not sure if they will re-sign him, but if they do, they should finalize the deal quickly during the offseason. Then they can look for deals when trade prices are lower in the offseason.
  10. I’m thinking this is part of the Ricketts grand strategy of having low low payroll for the long strike they know is coming. They’re playing the long game with Jed as a willing participant. Suckers are going to show up at Wrigley anyway.
  11. Yeah, six hours age Brett posted on Bluesky about Gore. He must be crying on the inside
  12. Jed's team never leaks. We won't know anything until they release it to the media.
  13. What? He has 32 career plate appearances in the playoffs. You can say you like him better than Shaw and he's "a veteran" and whatever else, but come on.
  14. I think you are massively overestimating Suarez's talent level based on the small sample of games you've seen him play against the Cubs. When he's bad, he's no better than Shaw and maybe slightly worse. And he's bad for long stretches. Then he goes on a heater and things even out a little. He puts Dansby's cold and hot streaks to shame. There is a reason he's bounced around the league.
  15. Someone in the other thread said they didn't want Gore. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't trade for him, unless they think the prospect cost is too high. Still, I don't care. He's better than any prospects we currently have and the Cubs have the money to pay him.
  16. It should be a fun day all the way around.
