  1. You’re certifiable.
  2. Brett at BN says Hope is not signed yet, but I thought his mom tweeted out that he was signing?
  3. why are you fixated on his age?
  4. I mean, other team's scouts are questioning the decision.
  5. I'd like you to write a coherent thought, so here we are. No one is saying Mervis is a savior.
  6. This seems to be the defalut "bitch about the Cubs" thread Sharma has a new article in The Athletic about Mervis. The Cubs decision to keep him down is demonstrably dumb. It seems like they do things for spite or to prove they are smart or something. https://theathletic.com/4702014/2023/07/18/matt-mervis-cubs-first-base-prospect/
  7. Yes, it seems as if I'm now an old man. I went to bed a little after 8 pm.

  9. Aliendo with a HR. He’s an under the radar solid prospect.
  10. I guess my point is that the Tribune article can be true and the season ticket holder is not coming to Wrigley for the ambiance. So not necessarily related points.
  11. There is a huge disparity between week night and weekends. They can still draw the tourists and out of towners,
  12. I think it is a much tougher environment to build a team without a robust development program. The Cubs may be in the beginning stages of it, at least with pitching. But I look at a guy like Christian Hernandez who was a huge bonus kid that everyone wanted. He gets to the minors and he's the same kid who was signed. There is no development. They are terrible at it. I can see why they draft high-floor/low-ceiling college players, less development is needed. I certainly don't know what the answers are, but the Cubs appear to me to be a long way from contending for a WS. If we're making comparisons, they are a lot closer to the 2012 Cubs than they are to the 2014 version of the team.
  13. The reasonable question seems to be, is this what Jed thought of the team when he built it? If so that's fine I suppose, but they are going to finish right around the same as where they were last year. Their pitching and defense plan for success doesn't seem to be working. I'm getting way ahead here, but they have to make a strong bid for Urias if he makes it to FA.
  14. Which is worse: 1 - Jed thought this team would be competitive when he built it 2 - Jed built this team to be mediocre with the idea of maybe selling some of it for parts with the idea of competing in 2024 and beyond.
  15. A guy like Madrigal has more value on a team like Philly or Boston than he does on the Cubs. He's not going to drive in runs, but he can motor around on a trott after HR. On the Cubs, he's standing on 1st base or the lead out on a DP. With the way the Cubs are constructed he doesn't fit. Please don't bring up Juan Pierre. Hendry wanted "a leadoff hitter" as if that is a position in baseball.
