  1. Is the wind blowing in or out? If it's blowing out, they better get someone up in the pen before the start of the game.
  2. Greenberg has an article up at The Athletic quoting Jed. He sounds more and more like Hendry every time he gets in front of a reporter. Also, it's awfully nice of the Cubs to allow Bellinger to audition his versatility to other teams before the trade deadline and new contracts next offseason.
  3. 7-5 now. It's a real rally, Dansby with his second hit of the inning.
  4. No fake rally tonight. Cubs up 6-5. Happer!
  5. Drew throws a hanging breaking ball middle-middle and Joe says it doesn't look any different than before, but guys are seeing it better tonight. Good God.
  6. Madrigal had a running start on that throw. Smyly unlucky with the run there. Still counts.
  7. He looks a lot more like I thought he would look than at the beginning of the season.
  8. To be a left handed pitcher who can throw strikes. Kay has been kicking around AAA/MLB since 2019. The Mets drafted him twice, the last time in the 1st round in 2016.
  9. Both the Diamondbacks and the Rangers should be the blueprint for the Cubs.
  10. "There's just a wealth of fringe-average MLB talent floating around the league right now." Sounds like you are describing the NL and AL Central Divisions.
  11. Yes, let’s talk about that. Spin and shape don’t mean horsefeathers if a guy can’t throw good strikes. Let teach them command first.
  12. I don't have an opinion, but I have questions 1. Who do they have that other teams want that are worth anything other than a lottery ticket? I guess Stroman. I don't think Bellinger gets them anything. 2. Would they trade Happ or Nico after signing them to extensions? 3. Would they trade high value prospects for a young ML player(s) who may be a part of their future? A move for the future, not for the present.
  13. I think the Cubs system is full of good not great players outside of PCA and maybe Horton (I am eating humble pie on that pick.). They will certainly need to go after top tier free agents. I don't know if the owner and executive suite will do that and if they do will they settle for 2nd tier FA. But really what is so demoralizing for me as a fan is the implied promise that these owners were different from all the owners in the past. Instead, we got a bust-boom-bust cycle with no boom again on the horizon. On the plus side, they have invested heavily in pitching analytics and "the lab". On the minus side, they are using the lab to squeeze the most out of mediocre pitchers. I don't/can't follow other teams who seem to know what they are doing to discriminate the differences between what they are doing and what the Cubs are doing. So I have no idea what they should be doing more of and what they should be doing less of. If the Ricketts were better human beings I would be more comfortable with ascribing intentions, but it appears to me, they are milking the cow.
  14. At this point does it matter? He needs to play almost every day. Same with Mervis. If they aren't going to do that, they might as well send them down. They're obtaining the same amount of information.
  15. Howard looks like he's put on some upper body muscle while while he was rehabbing.
  16. who is Felix Stevens? Is he a prospect? I just looked him up. No one has to respond. 23 triple low A season. Alcantara is hitting the ball hard, but he's not elevating the ball.
  17. It's hard to project and I'm no expert for sure. To me the unknown factor is ownership. Right now the Cardinals and the Cubs are the only teams in the division willing to spend to win. All the non-Tampa-based teams, even if they hit gold, will still need to supplement the roster a little or a lot to sustain winning. If the Pirates and the Reds owners decide that they want to win, it could be a really rough stretch for the Cubs.
  18. He reminds me more of Jake Arrieta than Wood. He use to do the mitt tap in his wind up like Jake, but I see he dropped that.
