Only speculation, but it sounds like Girardi is the favorite, followed by Gonzalez, with Sandberg coming in third. Girardi would be much worse than Sandberg for the simple fact that he will have 2 WS rings as a manager (likely) before he takes on the Cubs. He's flat out terrible in the same way Sandberg is, the only difference is he has had the best talent in baseball to overcome him. People (outside of us internet nerds) won't critique his work b/c, "he has two rings". Yuck, yuck, and more yuck. I never watch the yankees so I know little about Girardi as an in game manager now. but for all of this talk about world series rings I was much more impressed with him while with the marlins though. He seemed to make the right moves for the right situations, a no brainer yet something that Lou was really lost on. Plus he did quite a good job with a bunch of young kids many of which blossomed under his tutelage and after some tough love. It seems like these are some of the main things we want out of a manager. I watch Yankee games often and I don't think there's a better bullpen manager than Girardi. He seems to know how to handle pitchers. He's also very good at handling the press. He's probably not leaving the Yankees. Ben Cherington or Jed Hoyer at GM and Fredi Gonzalez at manager plz.
