  1. PLEASE let Price fall to the Cubs. He's looking mighty good this year.
  2. Why not Z to the Dodgers for like...Billingsley and so on? Probably not going to do it for alot of people because we need a star in the deal no? But the young pitcher/young cheap position player is one of the most valuable pieces in baseball today. I'm on the fense on that suggestion, but the Dodgers/Angels are the most realisitc and enticing teams. Maybe the Yankees if they include Hughes, or the Mets if they wanna give up Pelfrey/Humber.
  3. Well, this isn't anything shocking. Z is a huge injury risk/early decline candidate for the future, and as a pitcher a long term big money contract is a big deal. Still, considering this teams state, it'd be very dissapointing if we failed to resign him. Considering how [expletive] the Cubs (Hendry) was with money this offseason, if Z is not resigned then anything positive THIS offseason just got erased.
  4. Rotoworld is a decently smart site, but that list sucks. It's either our farm sucks or they suck...I want to say they suck but I know thats more wrong than right.
  5. Just let the season start. I don't think I've made a baseball post in this forum since before the new year. This was an offseason full of excitement, but now it's just time to get started. Can't wait for some ST.
  6. Sean Rodriguez would be a major coup in a deal with the Angels. That said...it's probably not happening.
  7. Haven't read this whole thread but um... Speed has been popular in baseball since...forever. It wouldn't suprise me if Willie Mays, a man that can do no wrong, was the guy who introduced him.
  8. Why can't Tony Gwynn or ANYONE who didn't hit HRs not have taken steroids? Alex Sanchez took 'em. So did Jason Grimsley. My question is why do we penalize only the great power hitters in the end? It's pretty obvious very good and great players weren't the only people that juiced, but they are really the only ones who truly get penalized long term. Sure, guys get suspended but do you think in 50 years people are going to be talking about Alex Sanchez and Jason Grimsley and steroids? Nope, people will be talking about the Mark McGwire's and Barry Bonds' and still arguing that they don't belong somewhere baseball important because of steroids. Steroids seems like one of those things that people fail to realize just how big it was. It wasn't one or two very good players who hit for power doing it. It could be anyone, hell it could have been everyone. Thats why I think the steroid debate is a pretty pointless one that leads to alot of paranoia and accusation more than anything else.
  9. I think if they come away with Nippert and Ownings the Yankees might have something there. Nippert has good control, a good fastball, a good hard curveball, and he's close to ready. Ownings could be a nice reliever.
  10. I actually did. I have no idea who Newhan is but I assume he sucks. Same thought ran through my head. Anyway, I've seen Newham and obviously the fact that I forgot him says alot about him. Statistically he's horrible, and his best tool might be his speed. Horray speed.
  11. I don't think he would. While AJ has had his own injury issues, he was coming off a 200 inning season. I think Prior would have gotten a substantial 1 year make good contract, with player options kicking in if he hit certain inning thresholds. Not just that...but Burnett was coming off a season that was suprisingly dominant. He had better control, groundball tendencies, and his stuff was back. Prior right now worries me because he's gone backwards with everything. I hold out ALOT of hope, in fact I defend him on here alot. I think Tim put it best, he's a "prospect" but one who has done something before. As far as the original post, no one in their right mind trades Prior at his lowest possible value unless its for someone elite and young.
  12. 1. I don't think the Cubs are ballsy/foward thinking enough to trade Z if we suck. 2. I think signing Z to the kind of contract he will get is a larger risk than the average pitcher. 3. I do think he'll end up as a Cub which will make me very happy anyway.
  13. Actually, I mean Hendry probably believes what he said, but I think Melvin is alot smarter. Put it this way, thats an easy way to please the average fan.
  14. Sheets Bush Capuano Ohka Suppan That actually looks like a pretty good rotation. If Sheets is healthy they have a top 10 pitcher in baseball, and Bush is one of the biggest sleeper players in the game.
  15. The trade is such a push for me - if it was only McCarthy and Danks. I really like Danks. A lefty with a low to mid 90's fastball and a curveball that BA has called a hammer since the day he was drafted. He struggles early at new levels, but always ends up looking good in the end. I like McCarthy alot also. In the minors he was DOMINANT, and he has the stuff, command, control, and size to do it. The Sox also get Nick Masset, who has a good fastball and dominant slider. Not a fan of his control, and such though. Still, his potential actually forces me to favor the Sox on this deal.
  16. Does anyone else worry about Lilly and his shoulder? Or that an accomplishment for him would be pitching 7 innings?
  17. Same for me vance. As far as our prospects, this system blows. I really like Gallagher, and I think many people are missing the jump in velocity in his fastball and how much better his curveball got. Pie is so raw, as a Veal. It's scary how close Pie is, yet how unrefined he is. Pawelek and Colvin are our "sleepers," even if they were first round picks.
  18. Exactly. Seriously I would love to see serious steps foward WITHOUT dumping money at guys and saying "look at this, we're improving and it only cost is a gazillion dollars." This team is barely a .500 team right now. In two years, considering all the farm really has to offer right now is Sean G., and Pie (I'm no Patterson fan), we might be in a pathetic shape. Veal? I meant quick help. Plus, Veal walked a horrible 82 guys in 154 IP, and was a year or two older than you want in A or High A. I like him, but he's very raw.

  20. The hilarious thing is that he'll only be 28 when this next contract is done. Man he's going to be something. Him, Verlander, and Miller at the top of a rotation? Sick. So was Prior, Wood, Z though...
  21. Well see theres really only two ways to find out if he proves it: 1. If they play him, therefore he's actually earning his playing time. Unless to earn playing time you need to do something funny/stupid like 2. Make him "earn" it at AAA, which he was doing. That is where that logic falters.
  22. You can always be mad at the stupidity of your favorite team. "Ifs" can't be changed, but they can be questioned. The Cubs had legit shots at great or very good, and settled with good or worse.
  23. If the Trib had opened their pockets at the right time, Beltran would be our CF, and AJ Burnett could have been our #2 because he dominates in the NL (and was pretty good in the AL). Instead we have Soriano, who MIGHT play CF, isn't as good, and is older. Not to mention his contract is longer, AND more expensive. And who is our #2? Hoping Hill builds on his success is our best shot of having one. My problem is NOT the spending, its how we did it.
  24. What? Schilling wasn't "liked" by the Boston media, until the sock. Before that he was a cocky guy who provided great quotes. A consistent .900 OPS player is unlikely to succeed? I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll hit in that lineup in that park.
  25. LOL yea because JD Drew is like the wimpiest wimp this planet has ever seen.
