  1. Package Izturis and friends to the Nats for Kearns or Church. I really would love to see a Murton, Church/Kearns/Drew, Drew/Kearns OF. It would be a thing of beauty. We'd be good offensively and defensively, something new to the Cubs.
  2. Get it done Hendry. Please. Don't need anymore of this Derosa/Blano crap.
  3. Can we please fantasize about one of the DRays talented players NOT named Baldelli. He's probably one of the first ones. I mean he's been injured, he's got no plate discipline, I have no idea if he showed any power until this year. They have a ton of guys I'm sure they'd listen to offers for. And they DO need pitching, I wouldn't mind giving up Hill if it landed us an Upton or a Dukes.
  4. Garcia is a proven commodity. Unfortunately he's proven he sucks. He's been overworked, has had injury problems, and just sucks anyway.
  5. Baldelli, Dukes, Upton, Crawford, Gomes, (meh), Bankston...anyone of those guys could be available. Please get like...one of them Hendry you fatass.
  6. I highly doubt Hendry will take advantage of his [expletive] signings. Agreed. Lee has WINS!! He obviously knows how to win, cause he somehow does it even with a career ERA over 4. Hendry will love him.
  7. You know what this says to me... Dukes, Upton, Gomes, Catu (bleh), Brignac, or SOMEONE decent, young, cheap, and talented is available. The DRays are disgustingly loaded right now. Upton or Dukes please. And seriously, WTF were the Cubs doing? The Cubs are a team that could take huge advantage of the Japanese market, and Iwamura would have been a nice start. I have 0 doubt he's going to end up a solid player for the D-Rays. Rumor is he will be playing 3B. Meaning Longoria is probably moving to 2B, Upton is positionless, unless they descide to keep him at SS after messing with him for 3 years. The OF is full, Brignac is the backup plan at SS except he might outgrow it and play 3B. Guzman, Bankston, Dukes (seeing time at 1B), Gomes, and a whole lot of talent is just waiting to come through and find a position.
  8. I realize it was tongue in cheek, but Cobb was a racist who may have commited murder, wore metal cleats to stomp on other players hands when he slid, and fought with fans. I doubt baseball will ever see a bigger prick than Cobb. And about the availability of Kearns or Church...haven't heard anything. But it's taken like a million years for Church to even get ABs, and they seem to think a CFer should be a Juan Pierre clone anyway (Brandon Waston!!!).
  9. 1. I think Bonderman is much more than a #2. He was the Tigers best pitcher for most of the season, and he's improved every year. He's a #2 right now, he's got ace potential. 2. He was supposedly being dangled for a power hitting 1B. Lee would have been perfect, because a Bonderman + Shelton for Lee deal would give us a young, durable pitcher and a first baseman who's hit .327/.423/.531 in his minor league career. Too late for that now, and the Cubs would never trade Lee. 3. Now they would want a SS because Guillen is rumored to be moving to 1B. We don't have a good SS. Bonderman would give us a young, improving power arm to put behind Z. It's a pipedream at best.
  10. You know the Cubs should really looking into Ryan Church or Austin Kearns. Both will give good production for far less than the three main OFers. Don't forget the heavily underrated Elijah Dukes in the D-Rays orginization. He'd make a fantastic young CFer for us, and he's far more polished than Pie. People hate him for his attitude, otherwise he would probably rank up there with Delmon Young. Just a few ideas for the Cubs. Trade oppurtunities are everywhere, I'd like us to see the Cubs target and acquire get some good, young players.
  11. My sentiments exactly...
  12. My opinion was obvious when I posted my "worry about Z" thread. The fact is I think everyone is tradeable on this team, and I have my reasons for everyone of them. I would definitely trade Z, Lee, Jones, Barrett, Eyre, Howry, and whoever else for equal value if Hendry could get it. Still, the Cubs would never pull anything that ballsy off, and they'd mess it up if they tried. So I'll just watch the payroll jump and hope that = wins. To tell you the truth, I think throwing a ton of money at a pitcher with the risks Z has is not the best way. Yes, a young ace is a gift, but Z was actually better the past two years than this year. His walks went up, his HR rate is not bad but its been going up, and he's been overworked for a long time now. The fact is if you look at the situation objectively, Z is more a risk for the future than a lock. Yes, Cubs fans love him for these reasons: 1. He has been the only survivor of our "Big 3" from '03. 2. He is charismatic as hell. 3. He was the lone bright spot this season. But the fact is this may have been Z's WORST season. He MADE himself throw too many pitches, walking almost five guys per nine. He has had tendinitis in his elbow/forearm area. He has what seem like chronic back problems. Does that seem like a pitcher you would want to pay big money for? My point is, I think the idea that it's a given not to trade Z while his value is at it's peak is a poor one at best. He IS an ace. He IS one of the best pitchers in the league, but he's not without significant risks. Recent big contracts to pitchers have been disatorous. The Cubs need to seriously think about what they are risking if they descide to give big money to Z. You can't pay a guy for his past performance, you pay for what you think he can do in the future.
  13. Just as a headsup... I too am drunk as [expletive].
  14. Kelly Johnson is the guy the Braves are talking about replacing Giles with. I don't think its good news for me. And I really like how that list turned out considering I was drunk. It seriously took like half an hour, but hard work usually pays off.
  15. I just have to say the Cubs should jump on this. The guy is a good player who from his draft day on has not gotten the respect he deserves. Sure he's been hurt, but I think its highly overrated.
  16. Ryan Church (CF) Kelly Johnson (2B) Clint Nageotte (former prospect who I think could make it as a reliver) Wilson Betemit (3B if no ARam) Marcus Giles (another 2B possibility) Gavin Floyd (still young, why not?) Pat Burrell JD Drew (is possible) Matt Diaz (meh) Chris Young (the second AZ says he's available) Carlos Quentin/Conor Jackson (if AZ does one of them instead of Young) Chirs Snyder (catcher that can hit) Scott Hairston (hmm) Iwamura (Japanese 2B that could be similar to Giles) Matsazuka Other Japenese pitcher I can't remember (Igawa?) Austin Kearns If even one of these guys somehow end up on this team I think I'd be the happiest man alive. I really don't see why we haven't gone after Church and Burrell like...hardcore by now. And if the Braves feel like Kelly Johnson just doesn't fit, fine with me. The guy has talent, should be able to handle 2B, and has a nice little track record in the minors.
  17. Definitely love this signing. Nice thing to see...a signing that puts this org. in the right direction. Now lets see what else Hendry does, cause this is hopefully just one good move among many.
  18. Padilla wasn't bad at all considering league and park last year. In fact...he might have been like...good.
  19. You know the most proactive thing Jim Hendry can do for the Cubs right now is step down and let someone with half a brain take his job. Maybe even that computer geek who got the Dodgers all those crappy players who weren't clutch enough to win.
  20. Can't agree with any GM who pays alot for middle relief help. Sorry, but considering a reliever can have such a volatlie career, I don't see any proactiveness in that. His most proactive moment may have been the ARam trade. I just don't see the Cubs in general as a proactive orginization. It's so deeply rooted in tradition that the orginization has just never grown the balls needed to step away from it. It's annoying as hell, but I would never count on the Cubs making a move that shocks everyone AND is good.
  21. Agreed on the sentiments that he is overrated. If I take a soon to be expensive star Marlin, it's Cabrera. Would rather trust a hitter with a long contract and big money anyway. Thats not even talking about Willis having a bad season and being overrated.
  22. That was depressing. Seeing that clip where Wood was DOMINATING the Reds and in the 9th just blew it is depressssssing. My least favorite game to look back at. Actually, wasn't that one of the 140 pitch starts? Oh and Oswalt v Barrett kicks SO MUCH ASS for a while. Prior's 16 K loss... The Mets series...wow. Victor Diaz, who IS that? Wow, I completely forgot how much fun the Cubs were for a while. And I just realized how much I liked Zambrano back then. I actually like him LESS now than I did then.
  23. Anyone else notice this just seems like a thing where you combine two things: 1. Make the guy a REALLY good hitter and baseball player. 2. Mix a little bit of hype in the cauldron. and BAM...you have your all clutch team. This list could easily have been "The Top Guys at their Position...or like Close to It." Retards at ESPN.
  24. I want Jackson. Chambliss wouldn't be bad, but Jackson appears to kick ass.
  25. You know I sat there wondering "Who on ESPN just said some intelligent words?" And I find out the guy who said that was Dusty I literally spit out the water I was drinking on the TV. Where the heckamondo was that when he was here?
