  1. I say don't trade him. I'd rather trade Z tbh. To the Red Sox for Buchholz and Lars Anderson. That easy.
  2. I wanted Cameron like 5 years ago. This [expletive] team...
  3. Buy low on Uggla/Hermida for whatever. Maybe sign Tim Hudson or John Lackey. I'm really low on ideas.
  4. Isn't he out of baseball? I agree though...Choi got pretty screwed during his time in the majors.
  5. Question: Did we take any intriguing, high upside power pitchers that other teams would be jealous of? I'm not saying that's how I like to judge a draft, but it'd be nice to hear. Raley sounds interesting, but he also sounds like young Ted Lilly. Lilly's a very good pitcher, but remember when we pumped out 3 of the best arms in baseball at one point? I'd like that again. Preferably without the parts about them breaking down.
  6. Hermida and Uggla FTW. Do we have even close to whatever it would theoretically take to get done?
  7. +1 He's got a nice profile and the only thing I don't like is that his body seems fairly filled out. Otherwise he seems like a guy who can become a starter in CF. I hope it's neither of Pollock or Arnett. Chad James would be sweet.
  8. I've never been a Z fan. Still, this seems like a non-issue considering his standing. It's really weird but this team really does feel like a sham. I'd like to I hope theres some mid-season trade that doesn't make me feel this way.
  9. Uggla + Hermida for whoever they want within reason. This team would be sick with a trade that did something like this. My posts sound very noobish...I'm rusty on the Cubs board postings.
  10. The #1 reason why Jim Hendry sucks. This organization has had no direction under Hendry. The guy just doesn't get it...you can't build things...teams...with a bunch of blind guesses as to what might perfect it. Especially when the guesses aren't even his, and that just seems like most of the time.
  11. Thoguhts on Clemson LHP Chris Dwyer? Seems really interesting and the short video they have on MLB.com looks really good. Strong mechanics, and seems like the kind of guy who'd go higher if he got a few more eyes looking his way.
  12. I actually expect a pretty decent season from Kosuke...in fact I expect him to be one of the better CFers in baseball. He's not going to be Beltran or Sizemore, but I say that the same way that I would say Soto isn't Mauer.
  13. If we get him we get a good player. The money is the teams issue. I'm down with offering him a 2-3 year contract if he's full healthy. He's a guy I think can/will put up at least .285/.350/.445 out of him at SS. Hed be yet another "solid" bat in the lineup, and he's an above average leadoff hitter.
  14. So...Hermida's not here yet but Kevin Gregg is? Hermida would be an ARam-esque acquisition.
  15. I like the Hermida idea the most. He's a perfect fit, and is going to be a really good hitter. Swisher is also a guy who fits pretty nicely. If the Angels are making Brandon Wood or Aybar available...of course that should be paid attention to. I don't think theres a chance at Verlander, but I think Bonderman could be had for a bat. I don't think we have one to give though. The A's might dangle Street, but I wouldn't call him undervalued. With the Marlins surplus of young SP someones going to be available...Olsen? Miller? Can I keep dreaming? Kubel would be cool, but I think the Twins hang onto him. Brent Lillibridge from ATL would be interesting, but I have no idea whether he'd actually be available. He was a pretty interesting prospect. Milton Bradley, Ben Sheets, and AJ Burnett are 3 FA's that everyone will be looking at...but each should take alot of heat for injuries. So yea...should be a fun offseason.
  16. That's because those 50 points are always better, regardless of what the other teammates did. in a vacuum they are. but the goal of baseball is to score runs, not have the highest OPS And you score more runs by having guys with higher OPS. roughly speaking, yes. there are plenty of exceptions No, not really. sure there are. Tampa Bay out-slugged an out-OPS'd Anaheim this year but scored 40 fewer runs. I found that in about 10 seconds. I'm sure I could go on and on. as I said, those are the exceptions, but it's not a straight OPS=runs relationship I think you are missing the forest through the trees. No statistic will capture all that is important, but some statistics will capture most of what's important. The point being, that decision making is best done based on objective measures. which brings us to the part of sabermetrics I like, which is in scouting and objective predictions of future performance. i think they are designed to do this much better than tell the entire story of past performance I agree with that derwood. But that has a huge relevance...It's why having a high OPS makes you a better player...
  17. Yeah, I saw Tourgasm as well. I think he was the 2nd best comedian there though. I don't think what he did at Tourgasm was his best stuff. A lot of people hate him and I don't understand why. Yeah, he's kind of obnoxious and I don't like his on stage antics all that much, but a lot of his stuff is actually funny. I think a lot of people overrate him, but I also think a lot of people severly underrate him. I can't listen to his Harmful if Swallowed CD and not crack up. I've found that most people that can't stand him do so because it's pretty clear he's a joke thief a la Carlos Mencia. Cook has ripped off so much of Louis CK's act that it should be criminal. You pull out all of the bits that he's stolen and you're left with a guy braying like a jackass and bragging about his MySpace page. Joke stealing is common as hell...every big comedian ever has probably stolen one or two jokes from a guy/girl no one ever heard of...sh*t happens really. And not that I'm a fan of either Cook or Mencia...but I heard one joke Mencia stole from Bill Cosby and it actually ended up being more funny...and Cook's "stolen material" is more topical than it is the actual joke.

Agreed...it becomes cool to smash someone once: 1. they blow up in popularity amongst teens and 2. they're louder than some people like. I thought Vicious Circle was pretty funny actually.
  19. The word "uninspiring" comes to mind...but neither class has even had 2 years to show anything.
  20. Nolan Ryan. Clemens and Seaver >>>>> Ryan
  21. Vladimir Guerrero, Larry Walker, and John Olerud Historically...Randy Johnson....isn't put into top pitcher talks but he's one of the most dominant of all time.
  22. What a terrible move. Dude is a slap hitter with a sh*tload of K's right now. On the other hand...he sounds amazing defensively and he'll take a walk.
  23. Yea...I still find myself hating Hendry's long term "goals" for this team and organization. Theres like...nothing in the farm system...and beyond the hiring of Perry and Piniella at the ML level...not much is being done to change the lack of plate discipline throughout our farm system. It's nice that he tries his ass off...but the guy would get a sh*tload more respect if he had SOME kind of plan for the longterm. Or at least a half decent philosophy on how to build a team.
  24. Prince Fielder = better athlete than 90% of 1B And he has the work ethic his dad never did.
  25. While this season is fun...Mark Prior and "what should have been" keeps popping up in my head every once in a while.
