  1. maybe someone can talk samardzija into going to the nfl
  2. again, corner outfielder = don't have a place for him to play
  3. the cubs really need to do a better job deciding on who to give large later-round bonuses to
  4. francoeur is at least an adequate major league outfielder; harvey can't even hack it at AA.
  5. yeah that part is nice, but he's been lucky on balls in play and his LD% is likely to increase since it's well lower than any recent year in his career. the biggest thing for him is cutting down on the walks.
  6. the cubs offense is still good even though edmonds was predictably bad
  7. lee = good at baseball edmonds at this stage of his career = bad at baseball PM me if you need further explanation.
  8. they are meatball posts. The word is meathead, not "meatball." And I agree with you guys that some of these posts are absolutely ridiculous. Hate Edmonds for being a 38 year old, washed up outfielder that is a bad player. Don't hate Edmonds just because he was on a rival team. I really don't care if he spent most of his career on the Cardinals. The reason I don't like the guy is because he can't hit major league pitching and the fact that he's a bad fielder as well. no, if you oppose this signing you're a "meatball," regardless of how good your reasons are for opposing it.
  9. and then he'll be back hitting .500 with 6 homers over a 2 week spell.
  10. i wouldn't worry about that. he got in great shape last year and came back in great shape this year too. he has realized what he has to do to be a good player. and, he knows that he is in line for a big payday if he stays in shape and keeps hitting the way he's been hitting. on a side note, i saw "Soto" in the transactions thread and thought someone was proposing that we trade him. that would've been grounds for an immediate ban.
  11. the cubs leading in obp and marlins leading in slg is the weirdest thing ever
  12. Being wrong on purpose doesn't foster intelligent debate. right but everyone has different ideas about what is wrong. i was ridiculed for supporting theriot over cedeno in the starting lineup, including people saying "you're better than that" and accusing me of supporting theriot just to rile other people up. As well you should have been. Cedeno should be starting over Theriot this year. The fact that Theriot is playing well offensively is great, but it doesn't change the fact that it made more send on April 1 for Cedeno to be the starter heading into the season. clearly our definition of this word is very different
  13. i wouldn't care if every player on the cubs was 100% flaming, if they could play well. i'd take super stud hitting hero jim edmonds from five years ago on the cubs, any day of the week. i do not want 38 year old slammin bad hitting lefty jim edmonds.
  14. lance berkman is very good, but nowhere close to THIS good. ditto for rafael furcal, though he's hurt now. dan uggla. johnny damon. carlos quentin jose lopez (batting average .315, OBP .313) ervin santana shawn marcum (nice pick coming into this year, but pitching over his head) george sherrill (#2 save man in the AL is on the freakin orioles???)
  15. I hear Stan Musial's available. Maybe the most underrated player in baseball history. Had he played in New York or Boston he'd be a deity like Mantle or Williams. that would be unfortunate, because he wasn't as good as either of those guys... he was very slightly worse than mantle but appreciably worse than williams.
  16. who has the best OPS and most RsBI on the Cubs? and leads MLB catchers in these stats as well? geovany soto.
  17. willie mays can still move pretty fast in his hoveround
  18. hey roast, $10 if you go dig a bunch of holes in cf
  19. just kinda brainstorming out loud here, but if edmonds is indeed washed up, maybe we can see if brian mcrae or lance johnson have anything left in the tank?
  20. oh i'll applaud him if he does well. i don't care if i hated him when he was on the cardinals; he was a great player and i would've been thrilled to have that sort of production out of our center fielder. i'll boo him now because he's washed up and can neither hit nor field well any more.
  21. whichever one runs face first into the center field wall.
  22. i'm calling it, if edmonds starts he goes 0-for-4 and misplays a fly ball into a double.
  23. his teammate goes on the dl every year with blisters. and try pitching with a cracked fingernail, i guarantee that you won't enjoy it much.
