  1. the cubs system sucks right now. this would be a really good time to dedicate a lot of money to the draft and either grab a guy who slips in the first round for signability reasons (porcello) or make a few wise (read: not rundle/huseby) over-slot investments in later rounds.
  2. pirates, prepare to be ****ed by the long **** of the cubs.
  3. most of depo's moves turned out to be the correct ones. a lot of people - myself included, i think - ridiculed the lowe signing, but he's been worth far more than what they paid for him. the penny deal was robbery. and the farm system grew under his tenure. he deserves another chance to be gm, because the first time he actually did quite well.
  4. Hopefully some time soon he will learn how to throw strikes again. The Cubs could really use "good" Rich Hill. hopefully the cubs will get his mechanics back where they were last season, and leave them there.
  5. dear ryan ludwick, you're ryan ludwick. thanks, truffleshuffle
  6. alright I'll ask it. what makes Kemp great and Pie crap? well this question looks even more absurd given their performances in 2008. it would've been a very astute move for a GM to pluck kemp away from the dodgers this offseason. unfortunately, i think the dodgers realize they have a very good ballplayer at this point.
  7. drop travis hafner, add pat the bat burrell the pecota comp of boog powell seems to be very apt in the case of hafner
  8. wow he is really tearing up the frontier league in your scenario.
  9. see, presence is the elephant dung to me. i think "in the evening" is a great song, and i like a couple of others on "in through the out door." there is one song that i like off of "presence" and the rest of it is almost unlistenable to me.
  10. somewhat true, but mostly not. he was rated the #3 prospect for the a's in BA's 2001 handbook, #5 and then #7 in the rangers' system in the 2002 and 2003 handbooks. he did have injury problems, but he also had a lot of problems with his marginal plate discipline being exploited. he had holes in his swing that major league pitchers could exploit. somehow he has learned plate discipline and closed off his holes in his swing at age 30. not exactly a normal career path.
  11. this is a poll about what WILL happen, not what SHOULD happen. hence, no may option.
  12. i think ludwick was highly regarded in the a's system, though that was about six years ago. schumaker was never supposed to be more than a 5th outfielder; miles was for most of his career a marginal utility player. same for ryan - adequate glove, lousy bat.
  13. the cardinals are all terrible people who hurt their opponents on purpose. time to dissolve the franchise in the best interests of the game.
  14. cards' batting averages: skippy schumaker: .303 aaron miles: .327 pujols: .351 LUdwiCK: .338 molina: .303 looper: .389 brendan ryan: .295 oh and izturis' obp is .371 what is this crap
  15. People are saying bad things about a Cubs player who performed badly. That's almost entirely unexpected on a Cubs message board. Its a little over the top, youd think Gallagher kicked some of these peoples dogs the way they are acting. only took 5 innings for the gallagher love-fest to turn into a gallagher hate-fest... as is usually the case, the truth (gallagher's ability) is somewhere in the middle
  16. tune in next inning to see if the cubs can actually get michael bourn out!!!
  17. apparently sean has joined rich hill and carlos zambrano as pitchers who are stupid when they give up runs Did you just mention Hill and Zambrano in the same sentence as Sean? i think you can probably figure that one out on your own
  18. apparently sean has joined rich hill and carlos zambrano as pitchers who are stupid when they give up runs
  19. season is over and gallagher is a bust. offense can't score off bad pitchers.
  20. he's still got some lingering pain from the splinters in his butt... give it some time.
  21. just put everyone who overreacts every game on your "foes" list granted, you'll be left reading the work of about 5 NSBB posters, but the posts will be a lot less annoying
  22. How long will it take for the Cubs to realize that Jim Edmonds is completely cooked, and is not an adequate baseball player any more?
  23. Remember what team you root for? The team that can make a guy who could get lit up by a college team look like Sandy soapdropping Koufax in his prime. boy if the team that has scored the most runs in baseball is this bad on offense, imagine how other teams must feel.
