  1. maybe i should've allowed the answer "may" he is awful and needs to be off this team as soon as possible.
  2. is flying an athletic talent? because i would like to do that.
  3. saw this coming a mile away. it's seriously painful to watch edmonds try to get his bat around on a 90 mph fastball. if he was a horse, this is the time to send him to the glue factory.
  4. He would have had a bad week then they would have sent him down to the minors and signed a 38 year old outfielder who just got cut by the worst offense in baseball to take his place. ba-zing. (standard Pie is a much better prospect than Corey ever was) corey was regarded as one of the top 3 prospects in baseball; pie was never really close to that.
  5. damn, wrong thread :x
  6. it's times like these that i turn to joe morgan for my baseball wisdom: So there you go folks. the cubs haven't been winning on the road because they haven't been playing as well there.
  7. For some reason, BP's Jay Jaffe had an article in the New York Sun about the Cubs. Basically it says that the Cubs are pretty good (though with some pitching concerns) and the rest of the teams in the division are not good.
  8. not really. did anyone in the western conference give the red wings a legitimate run for their money? the predators took it to six, but that was in large part because hasek was lousy. the stars looked like they might make it interesting, but then got trampled in game six. it's more accurate to say that the difference between the red wings and the rest of the nhl is pretty big right now.
  9. What I'd like to see (if the Reds DFA Corey and he clears waivers) is for the Cubs to sign him to a minor league contract, send him to Iowa, and see if Von Joshua can turn him around. haha, like the cubs haven't done enough to damage pie's psyche.
  10. i have no idea what has happened to him this year. his career numbers are better in the second half, but the difference is not drastic. at this point i think one has moved past "concerned" into "somewhat alarmed." travis hafner rates at "full scale panic" by the way.
  11. the cubs still have 106 runs on the road, versus 101 against. it's not like they've been getting stomped on regularly on the road. the poor away record is more a function of bad luck than anything seriously alarming.
  12. nice to see that a 16-32 team gets a crack at winning it all.
  13. no, corey patterson's body of work as a major league baseball player would seem to indicate that the signing of corey patterson was a mistake.
  14. this series is over. sorry penguin fans.
  15. The fact that he continues to receive regular playing time mystifies me. It shouldn't. Patterson is, after all, a veteran at this point and as everyone who knows dusty should be well aware of, a veteran who has a proven track record of being lousy is better than a young hitter who might turn out to be good.
  16. The same reason the Cubs give Daryle Ward the occasional start at first base, i.e. to give the everyday first baseman a day off? mark sweeney had an OPS+ of 83 in 2006, 89 last year and this year it was at -6 coming into today's game. giving him a spot start is fine; batting him ahead of solid hitters like kemp and dewitt is dumb.
  17. i missed this game, but why on earth would a major league team not named the san francisco giants (and whether they're a major league team is debatable) bat mark sweeney #5 in the starting lineup?
  18. yeah, people need to stop bitching every time a guy swings at the first pitch and fails. there are bad times to swing at the first pitch, like when you're the third batter in an inning and the first two batters made outs in three pitches total. or if the starting pitcher can't find the plate to save his life. but if your team never swings at the first pitch, opposing teams are going to figure that out, and all your hitters are going to start off behind in the count. another reason is that the cubs are hitting .403/.406/.611/1.017 on the first pitch.
  19. yay, 2-4 with a double and stolen base for pie. that .063 BABIP was bound to turn around eventually.
  20. whoever picks oj mayo ahead of michael beasley is dumb
  21. there is only one ballot, it never changes. so yes.
  22. the things of felix pie make me sad
