  1. cito figures as long as he's sleeping, he might as well do it on the bench and get paid handsomely for it.
  2. just wait til the next espn article: "1908 reasons why the cubs won't go all the way"
  3. i do enjoy stories of current or former players being lecherous.
  4. he's still fat
  5. A girl I covered last year is competing next Sunday in the 100-meter Butterfly at the Trials. I think she might be the only person ever from my county to compete for a spot, so it's a pretty huge deal for us. If, by some very outside shot, she makes it, I doubt I'll get to go over there in person, though. yeah, it's not especially hard to make olympic trials (relatively speaking, of course) but it's extremely hard to make the olympic team. i know a girl who made OTs in 200 backstroke, but she finished like 40th or something, and only the top two (i believe) make the olympic squad. in reality, only a very small handful of the competitors at swimming/diving OTs have a legitimate chance of making the u.s. team. i don't really understand why some people have lost interest in the olympics since it stopped being an amateur competition. i understand basketball i suppose, since their loyalty to their professional clubs is more important than their loyalty to the national team, but what about sports like swimming, track, gymnastics, etc? yeah, a handful of swimmers make a career in that sport, but the olympic games are easily the biggest stage for those athletes. the fact that michael phelps, natalie coughlin, katie hoff and others have taken award money and endorsement money doesn't make the event any less meaningful, IMO.
  6. to be fair, most of their fans are just fans of other teams who are now too senile to remember who they used to root for, so they latch onto the local club. nice performance by gallagher tonight, despite the no-decision. he has been solid in his work with the big club so far; let's hope that we get to see more of this in the next few years.
  7. it really didn't matter, neither eyre nor marmol had it tonight, and the cubs were blowing that game no matter what.
  8. i stand by my vote for ned colletti, but sabean and bavasi are brutal as well. actually most of these guys are idiots, hence their inclusion on the list. i agree on hendry, he's not in the same ballpark as some of these other clowns.
  9. i was listening to espn radio, and doug gottlieb was bashing ricciardi for this. no, not because what he said was stupid. because what he said was RIGHT, and then he caved in to the PC world and backed off from his statement. he then went on to say that there was a reason nobody wanted adam dunn and his $13M salary, because he strikes out too much and has no passion for the game. doug gottlieb, welcome to the ESPN stable of former athletes turned mentally challenged analysts/hosts.
  10. if lou had been giving marmol enough work out of the pen, he never would've had those problems in the 7th inning.
  11. can we petition not to play teams from florida any more?
  12. fontenot hitting poorly in limited playing time - he sucks, send him down cedeno hitting poorly in limited playing time - what do you expect when he only plays once or twice a week?
  13. trying to explain why gallagher has been better at home, the tampa announcer is saying that at wrigley, you feel like you're closer to home plate than you do at a place like dodger stadium. that's why wrigley plays as such a pitcher's park, apparently.
  14. wonder if any of sean's friends from home made the trip across alligator alley to see him pitch.
  15. caught a couple of feet in front of the wall.
  16. you're not going to walk much against shields; the best way to get to him is to put good swings on hittable pitches. and to get him out of the game as soon as possible... nice work toward that goal, fukudome.
  17. his whip is below 1.2. he's very good, and he doesn't walk many people at all.
  18. other countries always allowed their pros. I don't watch the basketball but I would find it difficult to actually root against them. I know it's not unique to the U.S., but that doesn't change my opinion about it. And no, it's not hard to root for Lithuania or Argentina to upset a team of multi-millionaire NBA hot-shots yeah because those other teams are only half multi-millionaire NBA hot shots
  19. my pick to win the tourney isn't looking too good right now, since they were just eliminated.
  20. alex rios is dumb
  21. the brewers are still our primary competition for the division, just like they were supposed to be all along
  22. It's a couple of months away, but I am excited. Mostly about swimming. The American team is very good and very deep this year. At Olympic Trials next week, Michael Phelps is entered in the 100, 200 and 400 meter freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke, 100 and 200 butterfly and 200 and 400 IM, which is a ridiculous load of events. I suspect that he'll drop one or two events. He should win gold in 200/400 IM and 200 butterfly, which leaves two more individual events to choose. I don't think he can win the 100 free; he's the world record holder in the 200 free, and there isn't a 200 freestyler the caliber of Ian Thorpe right now. It will be interesting to see what events he chooses. Hopefully he will break a world record or two along the way, but he set the bar very high for himself in Melbourne last year.
