  1. Yea, LT was running over the Bears' defense. the best part was the theme music from last of the mohicans.
  2. peter gammons' diamond notes in the sunday boston globe were amazing... that was before the age of the internet, and you'd find out all kinds of info you didn't know from that page.
  3. derosa has been on fire and hits lefties well; fukudome has been cold and looks lost against lefties. so fukudome bats 7th and derosa 8th? wtf?
  4. Lots of fat people But there is lots of beer so you can go hogging.
  5. The Cardinals have a huge following throughout most of the Midwest thanks to KMOX carrying their games and having a huge reach throughout the US from the 1950s until about 2006. It's surprising how many Cardinals fans you'll find in those areas. from going to games where the cardinals played the phillies and red sox, i have to conclude that the average age of a cardinals fan is 97 years old.
  6. No brewers, but the red sox are twisting the dagger in the yankees' back, and that's always fun right?
  7. Herby might be my favorite television sports personality. it's really nice having him on the radio every day, even though it's just noon-2. He's usually on with Chris Spielman His radio show is of national quality. He's got an encyclopedic knowledge of college sports. I don't know if they still have this line-up or not but they use to have Chris Speilman on right before Herbstreet's show. Speilman was horrific but the mouth breathers in Columbus love him. he's actually on WITH Spielman now. I swear it was Herb I was listening to today, the the website says it was Scott Torgersen and Mike Ricordati. Herbstreit/Spielman/Hooley is on 4-6 The beautiful thing is NO Jim Rome. We get Mike & Mike, The Herd, Scott/Mike, Mike Tirico, then Herb and the gang. it would be beautiful-er if there was no colin cowherd. i think that guy is a bigger idiot than any other big-time sports talk host.
  8. in the cubs' version, the fans that saw the last WS win will be in a casket for the last 20 years.
  9. [expletive] on feel the noize by quiet riot... they play it during every hockey game played ever played, so why not baseball?
  10. i don't think anyone considers that to be rock. certainly is bad, though.
  11. "rock you like a hurricane" by the scorpions, that is a rock song from the '80s and it sucks.
  12. i thought you said it had to be a bad song.
  13. if they make the playoffs, the white sox will be the worst playoff team in the american league. i'd love for the cubs to play them in the world series.
  14. you have to be kidding
  15. lincecum's last 13 starts: 110 116 111 105 116 122 111 114 117 76 (knocked out of game by line drive) 119 115 132 this is his first full season in the majors, and he's averaging 112.6 pitches per game in the last 13 starts, and 115.7 pitches per game when you take out the game that they HAD to remove him early. all for a team that is going absolutely nowhere. danger, will robinson.
  16. i think you're right, although there is the occasional "ah jeez" or "gee whiz"
  17. i'd like willie mays in his prime to play CF for the cubs, but it ain't happening. the guys on the team are the guys who will have to get it done in the playoffs.
  18. among all rookies, minimum 200 PAs: 9th in BA 4th in OBP 5th in SLG 1st in VORP 1st in doubles 2nd in HR 1st in RBI T4th in runs 3rd in BB 1st in K 1st in runs created T4th in runs created per 27 outs
  19. I've been to Colorado a lot, and I don't think that's true. That place is loaded with ex-Chicagoans and Cubs fans, and by and large Rockies and Cubs fans get along very well. Cubs fans are not hated in NY. They are sort of grudgingly respected for dealing with the crap they deal with, and I've heard several teams NYers say they'd like to see the Cubs win. Boston is similar. Atlanta and Florida don't count, since they don't have any fans. The game I went to at Shea, the Mets fans were way too busy hating the Mets to pay attention to the Cubs. They hate the Yankees first, Mets second, and themselves third. Everybody else falls near the bottom. they also hate their parents
  20. i don't think he's saying they should replace marmol with ceda... just that marmol's inconsistency has created the need for another relief pitcher. which still makes no sense.
  21. It's gonna be 50/50, I think. Half of the national columns will be "The Cubs can't hold up in the playoffs. Because they're the Cubs!" The other half will be "The Cubs are going all the way and will win the World Series!" because everyone wants to be the one that truly "predicts" it. or because people think they're the best team in baseball, which, given their performance to date, is a completely reasonable position to take.
  22. people think that he's generally good for his CLIENTS, but not necessarily baseball.
  23. absolutely not a surprise, as it follows Paterno's 40 year track record of never starting an underclassman over a senior regardless of talent (see: Zach Mills over Michael Robinson). no, i think the worst example of this was starting matt senneca over mills. senneca was a converted linebacker and he was absolutely terrible, but they played him for more than half of the 2001 season. his final stats that year: 54-126, 42.9% completions, 755 yards, 3 TD, 5 INT.
