  1. That's hilarious. Imagine paying $4,500 for a guy who put up .420/.467/.621, 196 OPS+ with 83 steals, 147 runs, and 127 RBI. Awesome. guess raisin is older than we thought... maybe he grew up with fred?
  2. 1. a-rod 2. well i can't think of anyone else who is really that good.... 3. ... i mean none of these guys are really hall of famers or anything.... 4-10. everyone sucks.
  3. This. If the spread for all Wazzou's Pac10 games was 43 they'd be 1-3 against it. washington state would have to be getting more than 50 in this game before i even thought about betting on them. they may be the worst i-a team, period.
  4. vancouver had three shots total in the first two periods??? lol.
  5. sweet, flyers give up 5 goals and lose again. this team is going places, folks.
  6. really, the valid arguments are the one above - home stats versus road stats - and the counting stats. the counting stats are a bad argument, because his counting stats were hurt by the era he played in, and they are still excellent for a third baseman. the home/road argument - wrigley played as a hitter's park, though not an extreme hitter's park, so santo's splits are larger than one would expect given the hitter's advantage of wrigley. this would suggest, i guess, that his game was tailored more to wrigley than most guys. that isn't something to penalize him for - if he was able to gain a bigger advantage there than the average hitter, that's something that benefits the team. it's not just padding the stats at a home park because it's a hitter's paradise, a la coors in the '90s. plus, a lot of guys have better home career numbers. that's not a reason to invalidate their stats. yaz had a career .779 road ops, and much of his career was played in a more offensive era than santo. nobody argues against him being a hall of famer, because he was still a very good player. a couple more notes. a look at santo's clutch stats and leverage stats shows that the "non-clutch" label is garbage. also, wrigley may have helped him as far as his splits, but over the course of his career, he was significantly worse in september than in most other months. the cynic would say that it's because he choked or whatever, but playing most of his games under the hot summer sun probably caused him to wear down. the fact that he was a diabetic in a time when the disease was not especially well-understood or well-treated makes this even more likely.
  7. no, i'm too honest, so either (a) i would have to change that or (b) i'd be a terrible politician.
  8. about damn time. i think it was becoming pretty inevitable this year, but that team has been a perennial underachiever.
  9. yeah i have said in the past that i will not pick penn st to beat michigan until it actually happens at least once, but i am going to have to renege on that vow. michigan just sucks this year, although their defense is still pretty solid, and penn st is very good. the spread is 24 points! the only way penn st loses is if they piss the ball away repeatedly. as long as they play a solid game, this should not be close. now if you'll excuse me, i have to find my appalachian state "we brought down the house!" t-shirt for saturday's tailgating festivities.
  10. if i were a good, "built to win now" team, i'd feel a lot better about having brad johnson as my backup quarterback than, say, matt cassel. but yeah this sucks for the cowboys. at least that will give tony a chance to get his cabo trip with jessica out of the way early this year.
  11. did everyone miss this? :rotfl:
  12. i agree
  13. Only game I'd be remotely worried about it is @OSU...Also possibly MSU just cause of Ringer, but yeah you guys should win out. Just hope Bama or Texas lose I'm not worried about OSU. They are 94th in the nation in offense and their defense has gotten blown up by a good offense already this season. it'll be a night game in the shoe and ohio state kicked our ass last year. that is not an easy game at all; i'd say ohio st is still the favorite, even if they haven't looked too good recently. being in Columbus at night won't matter when PSU is clearly the better team. I don't know how much OSU you've watched this year, but they are extremely mediocre so you are confident that penn state will beat ohio state, but somewhat afraid that we could lose at home to indiana? guh?

  16. i kinda felt myself getting angrier and angrier at that guy as the story went on

  19. let's see how effective norv turner is at shutting down l.t. tonight
  20. it is impossible to screw the pooch against indiana. they got destroyed by iowa and ball state, they're extremely terrible. michigan state is pretty tough, but i just cannot see penn state losing their last game of the season at home with a national championship bid on the line. WVU/Pitt call me a homer, but i think playing in beaver stadium is a lot bigger home field advantage than playing in morgantown.

  22. ann arbor is a whore
  23. glad you and I can see eye to eye on something jerry jones paid Satan to stick a horseshoe up the ass of his franchise NVM well if you just don't block a guy coming at the punter from the shortest route possible, all the horseshoes in the world can't help you.
  24. nice blocking
  25. holy crap do the cowboys have a horseshoe up their butt
