Penn State's Sean Lee got a medical redshirt for this season (and he's a senior). Do you have to apply for it prior to your senior season? pretty sure meph is wrong (gasp!) No, He's not eligible for one because he was non-medically redshirted in 2004 by the Zooker. Had that one been a medical redshirt as well, he would have been eligible to petition the NCAA for a sixth year. Lee's medical redshirt was just an old-fashioned redshirt. There really is not such thing as a medical redshirt. You can petition the NCAA for extra ones, provided they're all medical related. ok so i guess what you are arguing is semantics. technically it would not be a redshirt, but he could petition the ncaa to be able to play ncaa football again next year, and he'd probably win (if he didn't play in the SEC championship game or the bowl game).
