  1. But Staal/Cole are awesome. indeed they are, but their 35 fans (along with a few dozen others who need the rules explained to them before games) do not deserve a successful hockey team. they're the florida marlins of hockey.
  2. sweet, now it's over to third period of b's and canes. i'm rooting for boston simply because carolina is a joke of a franchise and should not exist.
  3. no, there was no whistle. it either has to be interference, which wasnt called, or a good goal. it's hiller's fault for letting the centering pass get behind his pads, of course the offensive player is going to keep jabbing at it when that happens. learn how to dump the puck in, ducks.
  4. this should be an exciting three minutes.
  5. casey lambert is the joel pineiro of the southern league - he looks pretty good when you see his ERA but then you look at his K/BB and realize that the ERA is mostly thanks to luck.
  6. the pirates have 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. and 1 run. :x
  7. yeah but the team has a 20-14 record with a lot of things going wrong. ramirez has been hurt, lee has been as bad as he can possibly be, soto has also been terrible, bradley has been hurt and/or bad, harden and dempster havent been great, the bullpen has issued way too many free passes. offensively the cubs have one of the worst BABIP in baseball, and they have a .295 BABIP against despite the lowest LD% in baseball. i'd argue that the cubs' luck or performance versus expected has been a net negative, and they're still 20-14. so yeah there are things to worry about, but thinking that this is an average or worse team - which is what a lot of people were saying - is silly.
  8. yup. pujols is worth about 10 wins a year, or 2.5 wins over a quarter season. you replace him with a guy who kinda sucks and gives you only about 2 wins a year, and the drop off is about 2 wins in a quarter season. if the drop off from the best player in baseball to a mediocre player is just 2 wins in a quarter season, it seems pretty logical that a dropoff from a very good 3B to a mediocre one is right around 1.
  9. yup. f*** the police.
  10. wait so he has to take tomorrow off? i guess that's how it works. still friggin annoying since he's going to get lots of day-after-night-games off, like today.
  11. jack cust didn't get a real chance in the big leagues until he was 28. some guys just get type cast as AAA players and never really get their shot at the bigs. scales isn't good, but PECOTA projects him at a .245 EqA, which isn't awful and is better than miles' projection. i'd give him more playing time at 3B than miles, that's for sure.
  12. This is a good point. wind should be about 10-15 mph from the southeast, which i guess is out to left. there might be rain/thunderstorm issues though, not sure if they'll be able to go.
  13. nice to see two solid innings from ascanio. hopefully that's enough to get him some 6th/7th inning work rather than waiting for 10 run blowouts.
  14. i feel like miles is getting all his hits in low leverage spots and chokes every time the game is close or there are RISP.
  15. he might've gotten squeezed out of a strikeout against macias. good inning, let him go one more - no patton, we already know he sucks so it would be nice to find out as much about ascanio as we can.
  16. nice to see that there's one macias on earth that can hit.
  17. Vitters has a .308/.348/.449 line so far this year. Wieters has not been called up. His line in AAA is .263/.366/.368. Peoria is A-ball right? With Boise & Daytona being low-A ? daytona is high A, peoria is low A, boise is short season A.
  18. if it's garbage time and we're putting in all the scrubs, why not hit lee for hoffpauir? 8-[
  19. Which means we'll get Marmol and Gregg. not with this score. if ascanio gives up 2 runs and has a couple more on base, lou could always panic and put in marmol. he likes doing that.
  20. this score is screaming for some ascanio.
  21. He's happy that the Cubs are starting to play better so when he gets traded to Chicago in a couple months, he'll be going to a good team. i know that peavy is a great pitcher, but shouldn't the cubs have some leverage in any trade negotiations? the padres are clearly going nowhere the next couple of years, and they'll be paying peavy a lot of money to pitch well for a terrible team. plus he has limited the number of teams he will go to. it seems to me the cubs shouldn't have to give up the farm for him.
  22. good call beat me to it. beat you to making the point that because reed johnson hit a double off a relief pitcher, he should not have been starting against starting pitcher chad gaudin? apparently idiotic minds think alike too.
  23. QFT. Hopefully Scales keeps it up for the next 2 months with Aramis out and they just decide to cut bait with Miles. It's nice that we don't have to make this decision soon. I still think Wells or Cotts will be sent down when Z comes back, not one of these position players. i don't care if they dump miles, but they need to stop playing him almost every day. he blows.
