  1. good call i must have missed the part where johnson hit the double off starting pitcher chad gaudin.
  2. i love when it's other teams doing this crap and not us.
  3. Actually, there's 1 out...does that mean we have a shot? no, bases loaded and less than 2 outs = no shot.
  4. uh oh, bases loaded and none out. padres have us right where they want us.
  5. He's very good against everyone. But you've got a great hitter in the middle of the worst offense in the game. There is literally no reason to give him drivable pitches. yeah but he's the first batter of the inning. unless the rest of the offense is pitchers, it's a pretty bad idea to just give a free pass to a leadoff hitter.
  6. the track record for college first basemen drafted in the first round is outstanding. that doesn't mean that you should reach for one, but if there's an established power hitting 1B in the draft and he merits first round selection, pounce on it.
  7. they're afraid of theriot, and really, who can blame them?
  8. no. .257/.328/.414 versus righties and .289/.382/.433 versus lefties in his career.
  9. Because Milton Bradley is taking the day off. well he should've been given last night off, chris young has no platoon split so having reed johnson in the lineup wouldn't be as dumb.
  10. i'm watching the phillies game, the one announcer was saying that there's a 3 way time in first in the NL central and then the cubs are a half game back, and sarge matthews says that nobody wants to win that division. four teams on pace to win 90+ games, yep nobody wants to win it. [expletive] moron.
  11. not really sure why reed johnson is playing against a RHP with a career OPS against of .815 against LH batters and .742 against RH.
  12. okay, perez was a young guy who had yet to do anything good at the big league level. bay was well regarded as a prospect but i think most people saw his ceiling as above average corner outfielder, rather than one of the better corner OF in baseball. definitely a bad trade, but as far as trading commodities, a 24 year old AAA outfielder and a major league 21 year old pitcher with a bad ERA are very different than an established #1 and one of the best 1B in the game.
  13. he was lucky last year but has been really unlucky this year. his FIP is 4.34 but his ERA is over 7. if his LOB% stays near 50 and his BABIP stays near .400 then yeah he's going to be awful, but that's unlikely.
  14. There wasn't any incentive for the Padres to trade a cheap outfielder by the name of Jason Bay (along with Oliver Perez) for Brian Giles, either. But it happened. We do seem to have some people on this board who seem to think that all Jim Hendry has to do is mantion Josh Vitters and Sean Marshall and all other GMs begin to salivate and offer up all their top players. I don't happen to be one of those people. I'm just pointing out that you never know what to expect with the Padres. there's a big difference between trading two minor leaguers and trading two established all stars.
  15. Oh no, I hope that doesn't happen. The horror, to think that one of these days Marmol will allow runs to score and lose a game. No other reliever has had to deal with that tragedy. I'm sure as soon as it happens, you'll forget how many times his control won innings that eventually led to winning games. be sarcastic all you want, but he's walked 17 guys in 17 innings, which is friggin terrible, and he has to cut the crap.
  16. i do not agree.
  17. amusingly, he now has 12 home runs at wrigley in his career, and 0 elsewhere.
  18. miles is passable at SS, nobody else on the team is. if they dump miles they need a backup shortstop.
  19. Probably because he's going to be pretty expensive going into his arby years, the Padres have a very very thin payroll to get down to, they are no where close to competing, and their other expensive talent is holding the team hostage by only accepting trades to 5 teams. I'm not saying its right, but that would probably be their logic. That said, I highly highly doubt they end up trading him. he won't be expensive. he's making $4.75M next year and $5.5M in 2011. it looks to me like his price tag will go up sharply after that; 2012 should be his last arby-eligible year and then he is UFA.
  20. good job marmol, keep walking bad hitters.
  21. sometimes you just gotta say, what the fudge
