  1. According to Wiki, "Russell Martin announced that for the 2009 season, the name printed on his jersey will be changed to "J. Martin" in reference to one of his middle names "Jeanson", in honor of his mother." ah okay. i saw that he has 15 middle names (his full name is Russell Nathan Coltrane Jeanson Martin, which frankly is ridiculous) but didn't put together that he would have been using his third middle name as his first name.
  2. why the hell does martin's jersey say "J. MARTIN" on the back of it?
  3. well there's a mention of the loney grand slam, the playoff flop AND he managed to work in dusty baker. terrific.
  4. i think it's safe to say that wieters is a bust.
  5. wow john ford-griffin, now there is a blast from the past.
  6. BP's 2008 draft review of the cubs:
  7. 4 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 5 GO/6 FO for jackson so far.
  8. The pressure on the guy is tremendous. Not only does he have to constantly hear about how bad his defense is, he also knows that with Lou, if he makes one mistake he is probably going to sit on the bench for the rest of his call up. well he pretty much made his own bed in that regard. guys who are scouted to be average or better fielders will get the benefit of the doubt. lou wouldn't stop using andres blanco if he makes an error at short (he'll stop using him because he can't hit). pretty much everyone agrees that fox is a horrendous fielder.
  9. i might bet my centsports winnings on the under tomorrow.
  10. gregg has gotten boned over on a bunch of those this year, frankly. one of the balls to ethier looked good too.
  11. get that goofy looking bastard a golden sombrero.
  12. most of the time i would say that's not a great result for a 3-1 meatball, but given the sad sack offense i'm quite happy with a sac fly.
  13. or just *a* hit with runners on base? or a productive out like a sac fly or (earlier in the game) a ground ball past the pitcher? instead all the plays in run scoring situations have been K's or piss-poor ground outs while non run-scoring situations have been pretty good. When you have so many poor hitters, and such a limited amount of decent hitters, it should be no surprise if a decent hitter gets on and the others don't drive him in. lee and hoffpauir both saved bad ABs for when fukudome was on third; fontenot has had two run-scoring situations and made outs both times but singled in his other AB.

  15. andres blanco is the reincarnation of rey rnez.
  16. the dodgers look almost as cubbish as we do.
  17. this pathetic streak brings me back to 2006, not many scoring chances but on the rare occasions that they presented themselves, the cubs would choke anyway.
  18. it's not like that can even be blamed on losers who shouldn't be on the team/playing, it's our starting 1B, starting 2B and supposedly good-hitting corner OF/1B.
  19. well there's the sub-250 BA from soriano; next AB will come the sub-800 OPS.
