  1. i'd rather have pollock than jackson. i don't want a guy who struck out 61 times in 53 games this season. trout would be a steal that late, but i don't see a way that he gets down to the cubs.
  2. 3 points in 22 minutes... he's quite a player.
  3. the track record of college 1B drafted in the first round is remarkably good compared to other positions and draft ages. i guess the question is, is poythress a guy whose bat is deserving of being a first round pick, or is picking him in the first round a reach? if he looks like a high-obp masher, i say go for it, but i've never seen him play so i don't know how well he projects as a pro with a wood bat.
  4. j.j. redick could not be more useless if he actually tried to be completely useless.
  5. he's atrocious defensively having played mostly LF, so he'd be playing RF. i don't think the cubs wanted to go into the season with a LF who takes some pretty bad routes to balls, a converted RF in CF, and a horrible defender playing RF. that's the obvious reason he wasn't signed.
  6. Banner day for the Cubs top prospects in the Dominican. apparently henry is trying to break the record for errors in a season.
  7. granted he has a .377 BABIP, but darwin barney is having a nice year. his BB/K ratio is almost 1:1 and he's showing some gap power. i don't think anyone sees him as a good starting SS, but maybe he profiles as a guy similar to theriot, but with less speed and a better glove.
  8. 27 walks in 27 innings. i don't care how good your stuff is, you can't be a good relief pitcher if you're walking a batter an inning. reasons for his regression this year? mechanics, injury, loss of confidence? discuss.
  9. he almost got out of it, had mark reynolds down 0-2 with 2 outs but couldn't put him away. fun game.
  10. SS josh wilson now pitching for the padres. according to gameday he's actually throwing in the mid to high 80s and has touched 90. he actually got 2 outs and had mark reynolds in an 0-2 count, but worked it back to full and then gave up a 3 run homer.
  11. After the cubs' offense busted out for 6 runs (in 14 innings), they continue their road trip and roll into houston to face the astros. starting is baby-faced serial killer theodore roosevelt lilly III, who comes in with a 6-4 mark and a 3.28 ERA: http://wiklifield.thecubreporter.com/w/images/4/42/TMFL.jpg he'll be up against old man and noted cheater brian moehler, who's 2-3 with a sterling 6.37 ERA. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/2008/writers/jon_heyman/09/22/heyman.stadium/MoehlerAP2.jpg the probable starting lineup for the astros: 1. Cesar Cedeno, CF http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/cesar_cedeno_autograph.jpg 2. Joe Morgan, 2B http://caimages.collectors.com/psaimages/601/09178447/1966Topps195JoeMorganPSA7x35d.jpg 3. Glenn Davis, 1B http://www.joesportsfan.com/jsfpics/cards/glenndavis.jpg 4. Kevin Bass, RF http://www.astrosdaily.com/files/gallery/Bass_Kevin_05.jpg 5. Jose Cruz, LF (what's with the facial expression here, pal) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7C0gSvTcf58/Rh-vsck8TKI/AAAAAAAAAM0/iHwdq8isFBI/s320/jose_cruz-86_astros 6. Phil Garner, 3B http://www.mldecamps.com/img/phil-garner.jpg 7. Dickie Thon, SS http://www.astrosdaily.com/history/sound/thon.jpg 8. Alan Ashby, C http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/alan_ashby_autograph.jpg fortunately, the cubs will be missing mike scott during the series (does anyone else remember how ridiculously dominant he was in 1986 before fading back into relative obscurity?) http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/mike_scott_autograph.jpg Go Cubs!!!
  12. the d-bags were up 6-1 going into the 9th inning and imploded, much to the chagrin of people who have danny haren on two of their four fantasy teams and are sick and tired of getting screwed out of wins. anyway, DAVID ECKSTEIN of all people hit a 3-run homer to tie it in the 9th, and now they're in the bottom of the 17th.
  13. ok wells is in line to get the win, better turn it over to the bullpen now.
  14. brewers tie it at 2 after an escobar error and a 2-run homer by d-bay braun.
  15. considering that he'd had 809 road PAs and not a single home run, i'd say it was very unexpected.
  16. After a disappointing loss due once again to an unlovably-inept offense, the cubs will try to bounce back with randy wells on the mound. the rookie, who is going to earn the nickname "hard luck" if this keeps up much longer, will hope to have another strong start and will also hope that kevin gregg does not see the field today. wells (0-2, 1.69 ERA) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/3030589172_a7c0eae6ae.jpg bronson arroyo (7-4, 5.37 ERA) http://sportsbettingindex.net/images/sports_02/arroyo.bmp finally, let us not forget that the reds are "expertly" managed by this man: http://cincycoolness.com/images/baker%202.jpg Go Cubs!!!
  17. chicago locals, be sure to do whatever you possibly can to avoid ambulance rides can't you just call in your emergency and order a cyno-free ambulance?
  18. well it's good to see geo hasn't lost it so badly that he can't mash an 87 mph meatball.
  19. this guy's stuff makes me want to run and grab a bat, yet he's given up 1 run in 6 innings to an alleged contender for the nl central.
  20. searle blew. 3.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K. ERA is up over 4 now.
  21. yeah the braves have a boner for georgia HS guys, but they're usually smart about it and draft good local boys.
