that's nice. two of your best pitchers in the playoffs were jeff suppan and jeff weaver, and last time i checked, everyone pitching for the cubs is better than those two clowns.

why? a toolsy high school outfielder - say, anthony hewitt last year - is basically a guaranteed bust in this organization. i'd rather take a guy who has a decent shot at becoming a solid middle reliever than an outfielder with a 0.01% chance of reaching his potential.

I agree that the Giants could trade Cain for Cantu, but that wouldn't our cubbies. I'm sure DLee won't waive his NTC (even to the West Coast), but getting an established star that would soldify the infield defense for their other pitchers at $5 or $6 million might make them think. Having Lee would allow them to be patient with Sandoval. i know brian sabean is a bad GM but come on, he's not that bad.

i love the idea that perry should be fired. the cubs had a really good offense last year and were pretty good this year up until Monday; they have 5 bad games and now he's on thin ice? give me a break. by the way, i hear that cubs.com has a great message board.

I am, but I'm also getting the creeping feeling like this could be a year of tanked expectations a la the Tigers last year. Hopefully a week or so from now that seems ridiculous. tank now or tank in the playoffs? i'm not sure which one i'd prefer.

that's another thing that happens in a slump. they're not swinging the bats well but there have also been some hard hit balls leading to outs. just a bad week.
