  1. is anyone who's not a fan of iowa or va tech going to watch that game? what a wretched matchup.
  2. I don't know if this is sarcasm, but: yeah, redflash is pretty much the perfect example of the "bammers" to which VolCub and dew frequently refer.
  3. The guy is 80 freaking years old. What if his own accord means coaching until he's 97 years old, blind and in a wheelchair? Should they let him do that because they owe it to him? Eventually, a program needs to do what is best for itself. The program wouldn't be anything with out him. Wait him out. He's been loyal to them for 30 odd years, would it kill them now to be loyal to him for another 5? Actually, waiting that long while the program continues to regress could hurt in a number of ways, not the least of which is financially. Imagine that the losing continues and only 2,000 fewer people attend games because of it. Average ticket price is what, $40? So, $80,000 per game in lost ticket revenue= nearly 500k a year. Over 5 years, that is a loss of 2.5 million dollars in ticket revenue alone, and I'd wager that is a very conservative estimate. What, really does FSU owe Bowden? He made them a National Power. They made him a multi-millionaire. I'd say the sides are even. what your post ignores is that when bowden arrived, the stadium capacity was 40,000 and now it's more than double that; if fsu hadn't had a great coach and instead followed the path of, say, duke or maryland, then they'd still be drawing 40,000 every game and their revenue would be lower by something like $10M per year, or $50M in 5 years.
  4. i highly doubt that tampa bay locals would go to the outback bowl to see their former defensive coordinator sit in the booth and defensive coordinate for a college football team.
  5. I heard it's gonna be JoePa http://www.sportspickle.com/article:436/joe-paterno-dies
  6. i have already reached the point of not caring who coaches notre dame next year.
  7. NZAA? i've never heard an alabama fan use that term, certainly no alabama fans on this board.
  8. big-time fails tonight by ovechkin and keith ballard.
  9. well this has just about become a just-win for the eagles now.
  10. so i take it virginia sucks?
  11. http://footballcoachscoop.com/Scoop.html the last two names are definitely long shots; probably patterson as well.
  12. oh man if the marlins put hanley on the market there would be a gang bang from pretty much every big-market team in baseball to get him. let me think up some trade packages that might get it done: boston: c. buchholz, c. kelly, j. iglesias, l. anderson, m. bowden cubs: vitters, castro, j. jackson, marshall, gaub yankees: montero, hughes, a. jackson, c. angelini, b. gardner dodgers: c. billingsley, s. elbert, i. dejesus or d. gordon, c. withrow
  13. no idea wtf you guys are talking about
  14. i don't really consider this a big deal. if you aren't sure if your head coach is "the guy" and haven't given bill cowher a call, you're not trying hard enough.
  15. i know it would be really humbling to go back to the job he left, but the patriots don't even have an offensive coordinator right now.
  16. Which really isn't all that bad of a fallback option. oh i don't think it is either, but kelly certainly isn't a sure thing like bob stoops or urban meyer. he's kind of in the same place that people like meyer, dan hawkins, paul johnson and john l. smith were when they were at a middle-of-the-road program that they turned into something really good, and you didn't really know if they were going to be a boom or a bust when stepping up to a big-time program. some turn out really good (meyer, johnsonn) and some are bad (hawkins, smith). Hawkins was good once? LOL. compare hawkins at boise st to meyer at utah. hawkins turned a bad NAIA into a really good team and then turned a mediocre boise st program into a team that dominated the WAC and won over 80% of their games. meyer took a mediocre bowling green program and made them good and then turned a good utah program into a great team, but in both places he had the help of a really good qb. i know in hindsight it seems silly to compare urban meyer to dan hawkins, since one has been awful and the other has won 2 championships, but really, what difference was there in their resumes before stepping up to coach in bcs conferences?
  17. Sick to my stomach. He might be all you can get, other than a young unproven guy who is looking for a shot. Or Martz. i'm just saying, it seems to be the general consensus that turner is awfu, while a lot of people still think that weis is a good offensive mind who was just not cut out to lead a college program.

  19. ok bears fans, now that notre dame has done the inevitable, how would you feel about ron turner being fired in the offseason and charlie weis being hired as his replacement?
  20. notre dame will probably set their sights on bob stoops, urban meyer and the ghost of knute rockne, and end up with someone like brian kelly.
  21. That would be a good hire, I think. that would be a great hire, but i'm not sure that's really an improvement for him. i'm also wondering if any of the big name pro guys (cowher/gruden especially) have any interest in going to college. obviously if they went the college route it would be to a high-profile program and not a team like marshall.
  22. you may want to reconsider having a quote from The Voice of Reason as your sig.
