i'd say it's a combination of things - maybe more elite players got hurt last year? wainwright is basically a free keeper, hanley ramirez sucked and was hurt, morneau was hurt, josh johnson, etc. offense was down. and i think teams in the league, like yourself and raw, did a good job of acquiring good exempt players from good teams rather than letting them reach the draft. i don't think the 2000 point cap is keeping teams from amassing too much talent; the talent is just being spread out via trades rather than the draft. my team was God-awful last year but i acquired halladay and cliff lee in the offseason. raw's team sucked but i think his keepers (adrian gonzalez, d. espinoza, tulo, freese, CarGo, greinke, wainwright, strasburg, hellickson, britton) rank up there with anybody's. if lousy teams with active owners can't improve over the space of a year or two, then i'd say yes, change the keeper cap, but otherwise just leave it as is.
