  1. transaction #1 for second half: drop stanton add ryan braun
  2. i'm still having trouble getting used to the idea of melky cabrera as a good baseball player.
  3. i'd have an easier time laughing at that clown if the cubs' unofficial mascot were not an obnoxious unemployed drifter.
  4. yeah, Olt is probably the guy they'd use as the centerpiece of a deal, since the position where he'd be most valuable (3b) is blocked by beltre through at least 2015.
  5. what the [expletive] is the white sox thing supposed to represent? also the blue jays' mascot is lame.
  6. well i'd say this makes my sixers the favorites for 2013 nba champs, sorry everyone who's not a sixers fan.
  7. that's not really the only thing they'd consider though. the rangers have a legitimately very good team this year. one of the top 2 or 3 teams most likely to win the world series, i'd guess. they should have won it last year but choked. the franchise has never won a title. their weakness, by any account, is frontline starting pitching - colby lewis and matt harrison are fine but aren't more mid-rotation types, and darvish hasn't shown enough command to be considered elite. their best hitter is a free agent after this season. their good-hitting catcher/dh is also a free agent. when you're so close to having a team that looks like a WS favorite on paper, it's easier to go all in with a "win now" trade. i'm not sure i'd do it for garza or hamels, but i'd have to think about either one.
  8. hamels for profar... rangers would probably have to think about it, right?
  9. did anyone actually check if luis acosta could make contact with a pitched ball before they signed him for $1.1m? Jesus.
  10. ugh whitenack terrible: 2.1 ip, 8 h, 5 r, 3 bb, 1 k.
  11. no decent prospect in low A ball has a floor of good major league setup guy.
  12. do a 10 day week with 10 starts. or a 3 day week, who cares my team sucks.
  13. gonna guess that the mouth breathers who think the cubs still have a shot have no idea who javier baez is.
  14. No kidding. He's putting together a lot of nice ABs. Single, fly out to the track in the deepest part of the park, line out to right, laser beam homer to right. Nice to see him making good contact right away, given his struggles with SD last year.
  15. That's nuts. Hopefully this is the sign of an especially aggressive trade market. I wouldn't say nuts. Dominguez cannot hit for beans. The deal is worth doing for the Astros because, well, why not? And dominguez' defense means the offensive bar for him to be a decent player is pretty low, but it's hard to see him being anything besides one of the worst-hitting 3B in the majors.
  16. really?!? jeez i had no idea.
  17. chris pieters (350k international signee) seems to have some command problems - 21 BB in 16 K for DSL cubs 2. also, mark malave and luis acosta really aren't putting up the type of performances you'd hope for from 7-figure signings, though they're both young. on the other hand, carlos rodriguez (120k bonus) continues to be really good. more than 1 K per inning, not too many walks, has gone at least 5 innings in all of his outings and hasn't allowed more than 1 earned run in any of them.
  18. that trade was a master stroke. thanks a million padres.
  19. watching the video of the rizzo home run - his bat was really quick through the zone. and that's on a 94 mph fastball. i really don't think long swing is an issue.
  20. back up in your ass with the rizzorection.
  21. didn't realize chipper jones' hoveround could move that fast.
  22. according to gameday, rizzo just flew out to 20 feet beyond the CF fence.
