  1. yeah, I wonder if he is hurt... he was solid last year and his numbers this year are better, but his performance today is just atrocious. The problem is that he's supposed to be the QB next year... I wonder if that could be in doubt. Can't say I know the backup situation at Auburn.
  2. Yes, I plan on watching my alma mater (Holy Cross) get crushed by Duke on ESPN in November.
  3. What's funny is that if Illinois holds on to beat Purdue, and when Michigan beats Indiana, Penn State will be the only Big Ten team with 3 losses. So Penn State could then lose to Temple today and as long as they beat Michigan State, they'd be guaranteed to go to the Outback Bowl to play a team like LSU.
  4. Both teams finished decently above the roster-full-of-rookies Cubs. well, to be fair, the Cubs weren't supposed to have a lot of those guys playing for them this year.
  5. Your school resides in a conference worse than the Big East this year. True - the Big XII North is a joke. Iowa giving Wisconsin a game shouldn't be a surprise. Iowa is at home and has to be pissed off at the way they've played lately. Plus, Penn State was nice enough to hurt Wisconsin's starting QB (Stocco) last week.
  6. I'm not sure what I'm more surprised about, Georgia playing this well or Auburn playing this poorly. I'm not watching the game, but I don't know if it's everyone on Auburn playing like crap, or just the QB. I mean, when you complete more passes to the other team than to your own team, that can singlehandedly put your team in a pretty big hole. Anyway, that game is over... maybe Auburn should just give the backup a shot to get him some experience.
  7. If true, there's a reason for that. Batista is terrible. He's 36 and he hasn't been any good for 3 years. if by not good you mean better than the major league average pitcher, then yes, he hasn't been any good for 3 years You guys need to get over ERA+. He had a WHIP over 1.5 the two years he was a starter, a K/BB near 1 both years he was a starter, an OBP against over .350 both those years, and an OPS against around .780. He's 36 years old and it's likely going to get worse, he's a terrible option for the rotation. Still, your argument that he's terrible has no validity. Yes, yes it does. A 1.5 WHIP is terrible, striking out as many guys as you walk is terrible, giving up baserunners at a .350 clip is terrible. I agree, but unfortunately for your cause, Miguel Batista didn't do that. Glendon Rusch was terrible. Oliver Perez was terrible. Miguel Batista has been, at worst, a little below average the past three years.
  8. Is it possible to play a worse half of football than this? Brandon Cox: 2-8, 8 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT Gee, wonder why Auburn is losing

  10. Who cares what Iowa was ranked when OSU played them? Fact is, right now Iowa is sitting at 6-4, 2-4, and isn't even receiving votes in the polls. They're not a good team. Last week they lost to Northwestern at home. You can't use the spot they once were in the poll to make your argument. Would you do the same thing if Iowa was unranked when OSU played them but was now ranked in the Top 15? Of course not. You would say that OSU beat an Iowa team that is better than people thought and is now ranked in the Top 15. I'll give you the Texas and Michigan games and I would pick OSU to beat either Louisville or WVU but the thought (not necessarily yours) that the Big East is an inferior conference to the other five major conferences is just wrong. Is the Big East the best conference in the nation? Probably not. Are they the worst major conference in the nation? Absolutely not. It's inferior to at least a couple of them. I haven't said they're the worst, so if you're arguing that they're not, you're apparently arguing with nobody.
  11. Auburn is what Georgia was earlier in the season, ranked too high and stumbling past inferior opponents until someone finally gets to them apparently... I just figured that Georgia was another one of those inferior opponents.
  12. 24-0. So basically Georgia loses to Kentucky on the road, and then goes to Auburn and blows them out? What the hell is that???

  14. ERA+... 2001: 136 2002: 103 2003: 132 2004: 101 2005: 109 2006: 104
  15. jeez wtf auburn
  16. why would $5M per year be a waste? The evidence at hand suggests that he's going to be a dreadful MLB pitcher. Put that money toward a decent, reliable guy like Batista. which "evidence at hand" would that be? His fastball in the 84-86 mph range. Greg Maddux and Jamie Moyer are very, very rare pitchers. so basically because he doesn't throw hard, he's guaranteed to be a failure? gosh, somebody should have let him know about this before he had six good years in japan.

  18. And the aforementioned gambles helped them do what? Meanwhile, Tiger fans can ask Cub fans how the view from the bottom is. I sure wish our GM had the audacity to go out and get the players necessary to at least threaten to win a division. They were GOOD gambles. Giving up talent for a guy like Sheffield and ensuring that he'll be around until he's 41 or 42 is not a great idea.
  19. why would $5M per year be a waste?
  20. The gambles with Maggs and Pudge involved signing players who were 30 and 31, respectively - not 38. They didn't suffer a major injury affecting their ability to swing their bat. And most importantly, they didn't give anything up to get those guys. Resign Casey? So that they have a below-average hitter as their first baseman or DH?
  21. Maddux already won the Gold Glove, and unfortunately the Cubs being so bad took away any chance of Z winning the Cy Young. But, I doubt anyone's done the Slugger/Cy double in the same year. This one was easy... Glavine did it in 1991 and 1998. The names that immediately came to mind for me were Maddux (never won one, surprisingly), Glavine and Hampton (finished 2nd in Cy Young voting in 1999). Fernando Valenzuela also won a Silver Slugger the year he won the Cy Young.
  22. If you're looking for hope, don't look to the Cubs. Look somewhere else.
  23. It would be ridiculous for the Cubs to let him go to Anaheim. The Cubs have just as big of a market if not bigger (b/c of WGN) and really have no excuse for not ponying up to pay him a lot. We're not the A's or the Twins, we shouldn't be losing really good players to the Anaheims of the world.
