  1. except that O$U didn't get a gift victory over a bad team. Yeah ND won that game, but they wouldn't have without the help of Moo.
  2. I do take some confort in knowing that even if ND makes the championship game, they'll get embarassed on the biggest stage in college sports. Kind of like how I felt when overrated Oklahoma played USC.
  3. Exactly. They set a line in an attempt to get an equal amount of action on both sides... that's how they maximize their profit. It doesn't have anything to do with getting the most money put on the game - if they wanted that, they'd put an outlandish line that guarantees action. Yes, sometimes the line is a little off of where it should be based on public perception of certain teams, but there are too many people who know what they're doing and bet a whole lot of money on sports.
  4. Ohio State is favored by almost a touchdown and has been regarded as the best team in the country since beating Texas. My friend, a Michigan grad, was bitching about the spread on the game, saying it was "complete disrespect" for Michigan. Give me a break. The line was 6.5 when it came out. When you take out home field (~3 points), it says that Vegas thinks Ohio State is about 3 points better on a neutral field, which is completely reasonable. I guess fans like to convince themselves that nobody respects their team, though. I wish fans would realize the point spread has nothing to do with respect or even who the oddsmakers think is going to win the game. It is set to help promote the most amount of money on each side. Yes, but they try to put a line out there that won't move much. If there's a lot of action on one side and that side wins, then Vegas loses money on the game. Vegas doesn't like losing money. Vegas doesn't lose money. The line will move and they will vary the payouts to make sure they make money. ie Michigan at +6.5 with a 1:2 payout is not as enticing as at a 1:1 or 2:1 payout. Then why don't they just start the line at OSU -35? You'll sure as hell get action on that line.

  6. You should E-mail him with your thoughts.

  8. worst post in this thread!
  9. Even if it opens the door for Notre Dame in the title game? :) I never said I wasn't rooting for stadium collapse in their game too!
  10. As I do every year, I'm pulling for stadium collapse in the Ohio State-Michigan game.
  11. I was there... that was my only Cubs game that year and my only trip to Shea Stadium as well :pukel:
  12. Drop how much though? AP Top 15: 1. O$U 2. scUM 3. Louisville 4. Texas 5. Auburn 6. Florida 7. USC 8. Cal 9. ND 10. WVU 11. Arkansas 12. LSU 13. Tennessee 14. Boise St 15. Rutgers so Louisville, Auburn, Cal all drop. Arkansas needs to jump up if they win this. I dunno... does USC deserve to jump Florida if they beat Oregon? I don't think so - they've had their share of close games against unranked opponents. ND? They should've lost to Moo. WVU? They haven't shown they can beat a good team, their defense is questionable, as is their ability to pass. Arkansas should've lost at home to Alabama, at least if Alabama had a kicker. I dunno if Florida should move down just because their close win came today and not last month.
  13. Washington lost to TREE by 17 points? WTF?!?!? Looks like Ty's team decided that 4-1 was enough of an accomplishment, and decided to lose their next 7. Way to go Huskies.
  14. Jamal Anderson plays for Arkansas? I thought that guy retired from the Falcons because of injury problems.
  15. I think it'll be Texas... they have to win at Kansas State tonight (shouldn't be tough) and then beat aTm at home, which should also be doable. Then it's the Big XII title game against Nebraska - they win that and they're looking good. They'd probably move up over O$U or Michigan, depending on which one loses.
  16. it boggles my mind that teams don't just throw 9 guys in the box when Tebow lines up at QB. Here's a tip - it's going to be a quarterback draw.
  17. man temple is horrible good to see charlie weis leading the brady quinn 4 heisman campaign by having him throw a TD pass from the 1 yard line on first down against Air Force
  18. nicely done
  19. Who knows? A NY Times article suggested he might go to the next highest bidder. If the Red Sox didn't bid in good faith, I'd love to see MLB rule that Matsuzaka goes to the next highest bidder and the Red Sox have to pay Seibu the difference between their bid and the next higgest bid. But I doubt the penalty would have that much teeth. I saw Buster Olney talk about the situation the other day on ESPN. He said that the Red Sox are looking to plant their flag in the Far East, with baseball continuing to grow over there. Also, he said that once the Red Sox have his rights, they have all the leverage - either he signs with them, or stays in Japan. So, he said if they offer something like 4/$40M, he'd have to take it, even if he felt like he could do better as a free agent in the U.S. His opinion was that the Red Sox fully intend to sign him, and I agree.
  20. hey TD auburn... passing TD by cox. Gotta say I'm surprised he's still in the game at this point.
  21. the usual ACC mediocrity in action... also, Clemson is only up 3 at home against NC State
  22. so Brandon Cox threw an INT on his first throw of the 2nd half... 2/9, 8 yards, 0 TD, 4 INT That really is the worst line I have ever seen. edit - and he's been sacked 4 times as well
  23. Wisconsin has a really good defense... I do know that. Their offensive line is also outstanding - every guy is 310+.
