Red Sox vs. Cubs pitchers wager...need suggestions.
TruffleShuffle replied to Danny82's topic in Fantasy Sports
Wow, no Schilling? I'd have taken him over both Papelbon and Beckett. -
That's a 1 bid league, so their real season starts now. Man, it's just so unfair that you can undo 14 good games with 1 bad game, but that's the nature of the beast. I wish there was some other way. HC and Bucknell are by far the class of the league... each lost to the other once and then beat the rest of the teams in the league twice. The next best league record after the two 13-1 records is Lehigh at 7-7. HC and Bucknell should win their first and second round games and then meet in the final. If that happens, the winner will be deserving of the bid.

can't believe nobody mentioned the big Holy Cross win today to give them home court advantage for the Patriot League tourney.
-
Winthrop has only lost to UNC (by 7), Wisconsin (in overtime), aTm and Maryland. They're better than Illinois. BYU is 5-3 against top 50 RPI teams, and BYU is 3-3, whereas Illinois is 3-8. Just because these schools don't play in the Big Six conferences doesn't mean they're worse than Illinois. I think OSU, Wisconsin, Indiana and Moo all have better resumes than Illinois. I do think Illinois should get in, but they'll have to be nervous about the fates of some teams like Nevada, Winthrop, Butler and Memphis that are probably in even if they lose in their conference tourneys. Haha...Syracuse is one spot ahead of Holy Cross! Good luck in the NIT... hopefully you get a chance to play Bucknell

don't worry ohio state will still win by double digits. In other news, Holy Cross took care of Colgate (not the toothpaste) in an easy home win... last challenge left is at Lehigh on Saturday. They're not bad... only trailing Bucknell by about 5 late in the 2nd half. My dad will be there to cheer our Crusaders on!
-
I saw it... the biggest thing I took away from it is that Mark DeRosa has no personality at all.
-
My instincts tell me: 1B: Keith Hernandez or George Scott 2B: Bill Mazeroski or Robby Alomar SS: Ozzie Smith or Mark Belanger 3B: Brooks Robinson, pretty easily C: Pudge, Bench finishes second OF: Mays, Clemente, Dewey Evans (possible that Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter or even Griffey could be in the mix too) P: who knows
-
The ESPN guy had Kansas St as the 7th team "left out", and this was before their loss to Kansas. They need a strong finish -- more than wins over an atrocious Colorado team, and a home win over mediocre Oklahoma, and then another Big XII tourney win over a mediocre opponent.

Clemens Says, "I Don't Want to Play."
TruffleShuffle replied to vance_the_cubs_fan's topic in General Baseball Talk
he'll play -
They would be if every sing;e gportscaster wouldn't have labeled them as such earlier this year. They are very good. Darn... well, I picked them to beat Tennessee last year in the tourney, so I liked them first!
-
I'll tell you who I like as a sleeper - Winthrop. Undefeated in their conference, have one really good player, returned all but one starter off last year's team that almost beat Tennessee, and they're experienced (start 3 seniors and 2 juniors). Their only losses this year were to UNC by 7, Maryland by 11, Wisconsin by 3 in overtime, and aTm by 20 (only time they were blown out). I think if they win their conference tourney and get a good draw, they could go to the Sweet 16.
-
68-40... Navy is a perimeter team with lousy shooters, which isn't a good combination. Colgate at home should be a gimme, so if we beat Lehigh on the road we'll have home court.

Prior and Miller throwing from mound with other P's
TruffleShuffle replied to UMFan83's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Sadly, I wouldn't say "no chance." I've read in more than one article that the only gimmes in the rotation are Zambrano, Lilly and Marquis, and then Miller, Prior, Marshall and Hill fight it out for the other two spots. It's ridiculous that the Cubs' best player from the second half of last year isn't guaranteed a spot. But this is the Cubs we're talking about, and you don't go 100 years without winning a world series by making wise personnel decisions. -
It is, but goony was arguing that he was not a superstar, someone else disagreed with him, and I do too.
-
You sound ridiculous. I said he's not as productive as a true superstar. I don't care about his media attention, that's an absurd thought to even bring up. Don't say he's not a superstar then. Say he's not a great player. Otherwise, you sound ridiculous.
