  1. unfortunately he had quite a floor as well
  2. he is? His OPS in April was .923... his OPS this month is .686.
  3. Problem is, there's nowhere to use him. Suppan, Sheets and Capuano obviously aren't leaving the rotation. Vargas has pitched really well. Bush is the only one who has struggled some, but he still has a really solid 38/8 K/BB rate, and he pitched pretty well last year too. Chances are Vargas or Sheets will go down at some point this year... I'm sure Gallardo can step in at that point, but until then I don't see him going anywhere.
  4. uh, anyone know why Marmol left after recording 2 outs in the 9th? I saw that he hit someone - hoping he got tossed rather than injured. It was a 9-1 game, so I can't imagine they would've pulled him at that point. And for the record, I support him being moved to the pen.
  5. good to see eric walking more... 5 BB in his last 7 games. 10 game hit streak now too.
  6. send fontenot down to the I-Cobs so that they can still be good
  7. I did. You don't give a large three-year contract to a guy coming off a year that's clearly out of line with his past: WHIP 2000: 2.16 2001: 1.40 2002: 1.55 2003: 1.51 2004: 1.33 2005: 1.08 __________ 2006: 1.48 2007: 2.17 Now really, what in those six years above the line, aside from 2005, says "give this guy a big three-year contract." I don't see anything.
  8. another hitter drafted straight out of high school bites the dust
  9. glad i'll be sleeping through this train wreck
  10. He was last night. The Mets sure weren't hitting the curve at all, but he was leaving his fastball up and over the plate, and they were jumping on it. He has more confidence in his fastball now, but I'd like to see him mixing in more curves and also some changes. And, he needs to locate his fastball better than he did last night.
  11. Can't answer that, but I've never seen him play and he's never been asked to play a position other than catcher and pitcher. He'd have to flop at catcher before he was moved, though. Not really sure how to answer this. Obviously college numbers are better than pro numbers, but he's had the best OPS every year on what is normally a very good Ga Tech team. The ACC is one of the top baseball conferences in the country. He was first-team ACC and ACC rookie of the year his frosh year, and first/second-team All-American his soph year (depending on which publication you read - though inexplicably he was second-team ACC to a Miami catcher with an OPS that was 200 points lower) and this year he's likely to be first-team All American. Last year he was 2nd in OBP and 7th in SLG in the ACC. This year he's 5th in OBP and 4th in SLG. For conference games, he has the best OBP and second best SLG. That's about the best I can do in terms of putting his numbers in the context of his competition.
  12. this would be so incredibly stupid, i don't even know what to say about it How much value does Wieters have if he moves from catcher? Joe Mauer is the exception to the rule, not the new rule. Wieters doesn't have Mauer's athleticism. First of all, I haven't seen people saying that he'd be forced to switch away from catcher. Second, he's not a really good hitter for a catcher, he's a really good hitter for anybody. He had a these lines: Freshman: 366/470/581/1051 Soph: 355/480/606/1086 Junior: 376/498/639/1137 Now in case you haven't noticed, the Cubs' offense has not been a house on fire in recent years. One of the bigger problems, believe it or not, has been getting on base. Now if I've got a college guy who has gotten on base almost half his at bats for three years, and hit for plenty of power, I'd probably grab him, even if I had to put him in LF or 1B eventually. I'll take the guy who is a really good bet to rake at the major league level over a high school guy who might turn out to be that good.
  13. Wuertz?!?! You have to be kidding. Why? He's pitched just as well (or as poorly, depending on how you want to look at it) as
  14. Jack hit what should've been his second game winning HR in five days, but Kiko Calero blew the game for the A's in the 9th inning, and they lost by a run.
  15. go to her myspace page... then you'll find out that she's not nearly as attractive as she looks in his avatar
  16. definitely has the curveball working tonight, but the location on the fastball has not been good. He doesn't throw hard enough to fire high fastballs past guys on a regular basis.
  17. shut up with the booing, dirty met fans
  18. cubs look incredibly uninterested in playing this game... maybe that's why i'm tired too
  19. floyd is incredibly worthless in the field
  20. anyone who thought this was just a complete homer
  21. boy i never thought the cubs would get shut down by a lousy starting pitcher...
  22. i don't know about that...it was hard hit but pretty routine. given the fundamentals in the field so far this game, i don't blame people for getting excited about routine plays. By the way, why did Barrett throw to 3rd to try to get Beltran on the double steal? If the guy on first is incredibly slow, shouldn't the throw go to 2nd?
  23. wasn't that a pretty routine ground ball
  24. Floyd is slow as molasses, Jones wasn't coming in hard because Theriot called it all the way. If Theriot is going to do that he has to get behind it.
