  1. I went with Ramirez and I'm glad there's some statistical support that I didn't have to find myself. I was a little shocked that I was the only one to have voted for him. The .953 OPS (including over .400 OBP) with 9 HR and 15 SBs (though I hate to rely on SBs) is a pretty lethal combo. He actually only has 6 HR and 9 RBI. That's partly his teammates' fault, though it doesn't help that he's hitting .421 in 114 ABs with nobody on, and .161 in 56 ABs with runners on base.
  2. can't say i'm thrilled about 12 BB, 75 K at the AA level
  3. Same question, different league... who's been the American League MVP through the first quarter?
  4. VORP through Sunday: HanRam: 24.9 Reyes: 24.3 Hardy: 23.3 Chipper: 23.1 Bonds: 22.8 D-Lee: 21.8 Helton: 21.3 Holliday: 20.9 The other guys I considered listing were Beltran and Chase Utley.
  5. I hate the guy, but this catch is probably the best play I've ever seen.
  6. I'd be happy with 5 strikeouts at this point.
  7. well that's not even close to being true, but whatever did you not remember how we complained when we had (whatshisname) who struck out more than 100 times se veral seasons in a rowand we went nuts about that? Dunn strikes out that manyy times as well, I thought this year was suppose to be about OBP. Adam Dunn's career OBP is .379. How many current Cubs have a career OBP that high? I'll give you a hint - the number is not larger than zero.
  8. So I knew that the Cardinals have been playing poorly... I just didn't realize how bad until I took a look at their team stats yesterday: -Their expected W-L is 13-28 -A total of four position players -- not just starters, but position players -- have an OPS above 620, and just two regulars have an OPS above 722 -Among their starters are Scott Rolen (209/299/318/617), Adam Kennedy (239/294/316/610), David Eckstein (256/315/286/601) and Jim Edmonds (225/293/283/577) -Significant playing time has gone to So Taguchi (227/301/318/620), Preston Wilson (219/265/313/577) and Aaron Miles (236/273/278/551) -Their team OPS is 652 and they've scored 143 runs, both second-worst in baseball to only the nationals. The NL average is 191 runs and a 725 OPS. -Their starters' ERA is fourth-worst in baseball, at 5.48. Among the starters are Anthony Reyes (0-7, 5.84 ERA, 1.23 WHIP suggests some bad luck though), Adam Wainwright (3-3, 6.34 ERA, 1.91 WHIP) and Kip Wells (1-8, 6.75 ERA, 1.52 WHIP). Usually you can't say that a team's 16-25 record isn't represtative of how bad it has been, but the Cards have actually been worse that this. Here's hoping that they keep it up.
  9. right, to play where? he can barely play 1B in a competent manner.
  10. Actually, I can't imagine them picking up the '09 option, so they'd probably just try to get out of the 2008 salary and then the buyout. I think they know they'd have an uphill battle against the MLBPA.
  11. We're about a quarter of the way through the season... if you had to vote right now, who would your vote go to as MVP of the National League?
  12. if people are going to say stuff like "we should just trust wilkins track record" they should at least know the guy's name.
  13. i guess after aardsma's work yesterday, cotts had to go out and prove that he sucks too
  14. i honestly have no idea what the strike zone is in this game
  15. i'm pretty sure other pitchers have done that too
  16. Next time a scrub pitches for the first time, I'm laying money against the Cubs. It's like freaking clockwork. Unfortunately I took Cubs -1.5 in a 4-team parlay today. The other three parts of my parlay? Won, won, winning by 6...if the Cubs can win by two, I turned $5 into $100. it's the cubs against a scrub pitcher with a chance to sweep and get back to .500... everything pointed to loss here
  17. how old is joe west? this guy has to retire... what a horrible ump. I guess it's always possible that a fan in philly will run on the field and beat the crap out of him too.
  18. people will be proudly pulling up to the game in their Iroc with reo speedwagon blaring
  19. wow, who's that cub starter that struck out 13 guys? must've been a good player.
  20. i like how they talked about voiding his deal in 2004, didn't talk about it in 2005 and 2006, and now are talking about it again this year. Coincidentally, he was lousy in 2004 and his power is way down in 2007, but he raked in 2005 and 2006. Bottom line, use all the roids you can get your hands on, as long as you keep hitting.
