Who is going to play OF other then Pierre?

Pierre-CF

Furcal-SS

Lee-1B

Ramirez-3B

Bradley-RF

Barrett-C

Murton-LF

Cedeno-SS

2 SS's Hoops? Good hitters would dominate that defense and pull it to where the 2nd baseman should be every time. ;)

However, if that lineup is realistic (and it is), then I don't see how we couldn't go for this one, either:

Furcal-SS

Bradley-CF

Lee-1B

Giles-RF

Ramirez-3B

Walker-2B

Murton-LF

Barrett-C

If Hendry' going to pursue Brown, I'd like to see him try to trade for Castillo (Marlins) and forget the pursuit of Furcal. Both Brown and Maddux will generate ground balls and I believe a DP combination of Castillo/Cedeno will get to more of them than a combination of Walker/Furcal. I like what Walker brings to the lineup offensively but, defensively he's really lacking. Even Jeff Kent had a greater ZR than Walker (.817-.802) admittedly, is not much greater nevertheless, Kent, who's widely acknowledged to have little to no range, has a greater ZR than Walker.

I think if Furcal is signed, Walker is traded and you end up with an infield of Furcal-Cedeno which is probably equal to a defense of Cedeno-Castillo.

Bradley would be a nice pickup but I would like to play him in CF and have another big bat in RF. Either way Bradley makes us a better team.

For RF how about Abreu for Wood? I know a lot of people around here want Abreu for spare parts but I think this deal would make a lot of sense for both sides.

edit: I forgot about Wood's NTC

I don't get signing Kevin Brown. Isn't his arm shot?

Can see Pierre in CF and Bradley in RF, but think that Bradley's the backup plan if Hendry can't get Abreu. LA might do Bradley for Patterson.

Furcal for 4 and 38 sounds about right. Doubtful suitors like Atl and LA bid that high. Still think Kinzer's dreaming, if he think he can get 5 years. There's just not a big SS market, w/ so many of the big market teams being set @ SS.

Only way I could see Wood for Abreu is if Wood's sent to TX and TX sends Blaylock to Philly. No one in their right mind would waive a NTC to go to Philly.

Yeah the deal would make sense without the NTC, but it's there so it's a moot point.

But they'd go to TX instead?

Well, apparently he likes Texas since he's from there, but I can see your point. TX is one of the last places I'd want to be. :)

I could understand going to Minute Maid even, but not Arlington. Just wouldn't make sense.

You never know.

I have nothing to back this up with but for some reason I feel like Kerry wouldn't mind leaving Chicago.

I don't know his status, but I remember people talking about Brown for closer last year. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him at a very low cost. He could be a solid #5, or possibly come out of the pen somewhere.

Well, Brown for a million out of the pen wouldn't be bad. With the Cubs propensity for injury, Brown probably could get 15 starts.

Why the heck would the Cubs want to sign another pitcher? It seems like they have enough arms as it is.

The Cubs have 3 times as many injuries to pitchers as the Cardinals??

Unless Brown can play RF I don't see how he fits on the Cubs roster.

If it comes to July and the Cubs want to add somebody to their 40-man roster, Brown would fit perfectly on the 60-day disabled list to open a spot.

sadly Brown would be better than what they have right now
