It really is too mind-boggling to consider a Cubs front five of Pierre, Furcal, Lee, Ramirez, and Dunn.

It's infuriating to realize the Cubs can actually afford to do make this happen knowing how fantasy it seems.

And Adam Dunn coming to the Cubs is probably the only thing that could get me excited about this season.

But I doubt it will happen. Kearns coming to the Cubs would be a much safer bet.

If we get Kearns that also means Murton is gone. I can't see Hendry going with Murton and Kearns as the starting corner OF's.

I thought Kearns was a good defensive RF?

This is what was reported on ESPN Radio AM 1000 at 6:20 AM CST.

Beyond Furcal and Pierre, Jim Hendry is interested in Kansas City pitcher Mike MacDougal, and Reds outfielders Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns.

Hoops

Furcal, MacDougal and Dunn would be nice!

Get-R-Dunn Mr. Hendry!

Would you trade Z for Dunn Hoops?

Now that I think about it....what if Hendry gets Pierre and then trades Pie and some top pitching prospects to the Reds for Dunn?

=P~

Pierre

Furcal

Lee

Dunn

ARam

Murton

Barrett

Cedeno

If I didn't have to take Milton, I'd offer the Reds the following for Dunn:

I take Rich Hill and Felix Pie off the table.

They can pick any two minor leaguers or young major leaguers (not Zambrano or Prior).

At that point, I can pull one more guy back off the table.

They get to pick one more guy.

And tonight on ESPN, Hendry and the Reds' GM play "Go Fish".

I doubt defense would be the issue. I just don't think Hendry would be comfortable with the offense with Murton/Kearns at the corner OF positions, not after being embarrassed by Holla/Burnitz.

Why would we get Kearns? Dusty and Hendry value left handed bats. We'd only have 2 switch hitters and no true lefties with Neifi and Furcal (assuming CPat is traded).

I'm willing to be there is more interest in Dunn than Kearns (from Hendry at least) based solely on that.

We got rid of Burnitz and we need a replacement for his lefty power.

In our trade proposals for Dunn, we have to be wary of all the other teams that would have interest and what they would be willing to offer. I'm sure the Cardinals and Astros both would jump into the fray for a talent like Dunn. The Dodgers and Red Sox likely want in on the sweepstakes as well. I could also see Toronto and Seatle having interest. With all those teams involved, we have to realize that we won't get him without giving away our best prospects. To say anyone but Pie and Hill and Prior and Zambrano bascially kills any chance for a deal. Who does that leave that would truly interest the Reds more than what they could get elsewhere?

My guess is that any deal for Dunn will include at least Hill or Pie or there won't be a deal.

With Steve Phillips as both teams GM!

If Hendry can hold Pie from the Fish I see no reason why he wouldn't move him for Dunn. I agree it's going to take at least Pie and Hill.

Great point Vance, we will also have to pay a premium because Cincy will not want to trade him within the division if they can get something comparable somewhere else

If you want Dunn you can't tell the Reds you have untouchables in the minors. Everyone must be available.

That's especially true if you aren't willing to take Milton's contract.

But if it meant getting Dunn, I'd take Milton's contract and the mortgage of Great American Ballpark. Get me Adam Dunn, please!!!

And see if you can get Kent Mercker thrown into the deal as well.

Yeah, put yourself in the Reds' shoes. You are going to trade Adam Dunn to a division rival, then the jagoffs give you a list of minor leaguers you can't have. Would you put up with that? I wouldn't.

Fair enough, but you have to factor in the extreme likelihood that, even if you acquire him, Dunn will be an Astro after 2007.

not if you throw money at him right away.

Are you going to insist that the Reds provide a negotiating window for you to sign Dunn to a long term deal?

The cost in talent just went up.

Are you going to make the trade contingent on Dunn signing such a deal?

Good luck.

To get Dunn it's going to take a package that probably has one or two blue chip prospects and one or two young players the Reds believe will help them now. Depending on how valuable those prospects are, you may get by with fewer in number.

The Reds also are going to want pitching in any deal. Hill will be a part of any deal for Dunn. We may can get away with Pie not being in the deal, but not without Hill in my opinion.

What scares me is that if Dunn is on the market, I could see this three-way going down:

Mets get Manny Ramirez

Red Sox get Cameron and Dunn

Reds get Milldege, Petit, and Arroyo.

That's probably a better haul than they would get in any of our proposed deals and all of those teams would likely be happy over the deal.
