Ozzie can give the choke sign to our fans in 2003 and expects Cub fans to support him and the Sox.

When the Sox get knocked out of the playoffs, I will enjoy it for a couple of days safe in the notion that the Indians will keep the Sox from sniffing the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

Sox have history against them now:

Since the current format started in 1995, 9 teams have lost the first LCS game at home, only 2 advanced to the World Series (Yankees in 2000 & 2003) with the 2000 Yankees the only team to win the World Series.

14 teams have swept their opening round series and had 3 days rest. Only 4 teams won their opening LCS game. Of the 10 teams that lost, only 2 advanced to the World Series (2004 Red Sox, 1995 Indians) the Red Sox the only team to win it all. 8 teams opened at home, 5 lost and did not advance, 3 won and did advance.

I've never see why people hate the Sox more then the Cards.

Uh-huh. Someone refresh my memory, but did the CNA Building, or ANY building, support the Cubs in 2003? Check this out:

Someone please teach me how to get pics on here? Thanks!

You put the link to the page instead of the link to the picture in there...you need to right click on the picture next time and "copy image location" then put that link in there.

Hmm. When I right-click on the picture, there is no "copy image location" option. There a "copy" option, but that's it.

Work 'puter here. I'm afraid to DL Firefox because I train on this computer and there are some features of our product that don't work they way they're supposed to on Firefox. So I'm stuck with full I.E. 6.0 (or thereabouts).

I was asked twice today about my Cubs hat:

'You're a big Cubs fan. You're supporting the Sox, aren't you?'

I replied that sure, I was supporting the Sox, because Chicago needs a champion, just like I'm sure you supported the Cubs in 2003. That usually shuts 'em up.

Here's the problem with White Sox fans:

On WBBM-AM, a reporter grabbed a soundbite from a Sox fan shortly after the team took a two games to one lead over the Angels. Rather than talk about how well the team played that night, the fan chose to take a swipe at the Cubs and how they fared in the playoffs in 2003.

It's hard to root for a team whose fans act like that.

Posted

I can separate the fans from the team. I think the city needs a champ, and while I would rather it be any other team than the Sox, I won't begrudge them a good season. It wasn't at the Cubs' expense.

As for the argument (often heard here) that "I don't want to take all the crap from the Sox fans who will rub my face in their victory"....listen, you would do the EXACT same thing to them if the Cubs had won it all in 2003. Let's not pretend we wouldn't.

Every positive for the Sox is a negative for the Cubs. If those bastards win, we'll feel it in every aspect of the organization.

It's not just about the fans.

While it may be easy to separate the Sox fans from the Sox, their manager acts just like their fans do. So even if I separated my feelings about the fans from the team, I'd still hate the team because their manager is a punk.

That's fine.

It's just that I, as a fan, don't define myself by who I hate. I love the Cubs, and I don't like whichever team they are playing at the time. When we play the Sox, I want the Cubs to win every game.

Likewise, I'm not a "Packer Hating" Bears fan or a "Pistons hating" Bulls fan.

GO WHITE SOX TERMINATE THE GOGGLEPEN

Escobar, Donnelly and Rodriguez will not go down that easily. If needed, they'll sign Gagne and Duaner Sanchez from the other LA team too for an all-goggle bullpen.

Well, I have the teams I like. Cubs are obviously way atop that list. Then, I have the teams I absolutely hate. The White Sox and Cardinals are atop that list. There are then a number of teams that fall within the middle. The rankings of those depend on many factors, often which will benefit the Cubs...but if they were to make it to the postseason, might be affected by whether I like certain players or not. One day, just for the hell of it, I'll post a thread of all 30 teams and where they rank in my affinity level.

I guess we're different types of fans. I don't really hate any other teams. Why waste my energy on a team I'm not a fan of? I take no pleasure in seeing other teams lose when it's not to the Cubs. Okay, perhaps I root against the Yankees every post season, but who doesn't? When the Cubs are out of it (which is always), I usually root for the best "story". I was very satisfied with the D-Backs and Angels WS wins because of that. This year, I think an Astros vs. White Sox series would be the best, simply because it's been 90 years since the Sox won, and Houston has never won.

Actually, I find it amusing that someone would randomly IM people he's never met and troll that way because he's been banned from about every fan forum on the net.
