I'd imagine so, yeah.

But why call up Theriot instead of Fontenot? Ryan actually has something to play for right now.

And I'm guessing they moved Wood to the 60-day DL to put Ryan on the 40-man roster.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

with the rule 5 eligibles we will have this offseason why are we putting theriot on the 40 man?

That doesn't have to be done at this point, though. He can be put on/stay on later.

If I'm in Ryan's position, I'd much rather stay with the Jaxx for the Southern League championship series than get one or two ABs with the Cubs. The only way it's good for him is if the Cubs wouldn't call him up after the championship series unless another middle infielder went down.

Is this confirmed? I don't see anything anywhere about it and it seems like a strange move since Hendry I thought had said before he would let kids finish their minor leagues seasons.

I'm sure there are others like myself that don't know much about this guy, so could one of the posters that follows the minor leaguers tell us about him?

Assuming he gets dropped from the 40 man this offseason to make room for some one else, wouldnt he have to go through waivers?

I'm not so sure about that, I'm sure he's well aware with the way things work this may be his only shot at the show... Look at Crash Davis in Bull Durham he had a cup of coffe and cherished it, you think he would trade that to be part of the possibility at a AA title???? (I know it's a fictional character, but still)

I still don't agree with the move and obviously Fontenot would be the best choice, but to say that Theriot wouldn't want this I think is wrong.

Great utility player. I sort of can see why he got called up since his playing time has drastically been reduced after Eric Patterson's promotion, but don't see why Fontenot was passed.

I thought Riot had been playing SS regularly since Eric came over. I know Ryan has played SS in all of the playoff games. It's Sisk who has lost time, although he played in Game 3.

Theriot missed a couple of games in the regular season-ending series, didn't he? You're right, he has played in all 3 playoff games.

The only possible thing is maybe Fontenot went home, and they didn't want to start him back up to baseball stuff after having a week or whatever off??

I'm not sure how many games he missed at the end of the season but I know he was out of the lineup. However, it was my understanding that he would be the SS through the playoffs.

In any case, congratulations to Ryan. Ryan is a great player and works hard. In fact, he was named team MVP by the Jaxx and was only the third guy in team history to hit .300 in a season. After getting snubbed for the all-star game and getting snubbed as a end of the season all-star this has to be really sweet. Too bad we won't have his bat for the Championship series.

That's why I said unless this was going to be his only shot this season. If he'd be up after the Jaxx are done (probably right after the Cards series at Wrigley), I'm sure he'd get a lot more out of playing in and winning a championship with West Tenn. Certainly more playing time, at least.

But it's still a great honor. I hope he has fun with the big league club.

If Fontenot and Theriot are on the 40-man through the offseason, I can't see Jose Macias being re-signed.

Of course neither Fontenot or Theriot play the OF like Macias, so I'm probably just being crazy.
