If the Jaxx win their last two games, today and tomorrow, they're second half champs!

They're hosting Mobile, who on the year have a 58-78 record, including 26-40 on the road.

Go Jaxx!

Leicester with a strong start so far for Iowa (although it is post-September callups). 6 IP, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 6 Ks.

Marmol is doing one better, though. 6 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 11 Ks. They're scoreless in Jackson, but they have 2 on with nobody out after a surprising Sing walk.

They're also scoreless in Peoria.

The Jaxx leave the bases loaded and it's still scoreless through 6.

I just heard from Serena, the NSBB crew in Peoria is having a great time.

Missed opportunity by the Jaxx. Hopefully their bats will wake up before Wednesday (preferably this game).

Another 1-2-3 inning for Marmol and it's now scoreless at the 7th inning stretch.

I wish you guys could listen to Ron doing the stretch as Harry Caray, it's quality! Maybe I should record it on Thursday. I forgot to take pictures of the zen garden last Friday and I need to get that done Thursday.

The Jaxx strand another baserunner at third. Blah.

Big props to Marmol, great game.

ha ha, the Mobile pitcher with the only 2 hits

The Chiefs answer a 2 run top of the third with 3 in the bottom of the third, only to give up 2 in the top of the 4th.

Strike 'em out, throw 'em out to end the inning!

How about a walkoff courtesy of Aunt Florence to get one win away from a second half championship?

Posted

MONTANEZ WINS IT IN THE 11TH!!!!!!!!!!!

1 WIN AWAY FROM THE SECOND HALF NORTHERN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About time that game ended!

Bacon with an impressive first to third on a groundout right before that.

In Peoria:

After rain delay the Chiefs score 1 to make it 5-4, top of the ninth, new pitch 34 (missed name), gives up a lead off homer, strikes out the next batter, then walks the bases full and gives up a grandslam. Chiefs lose 9-5.

At the game was Serena, Tim, Brandon, coldsteel, peajay, and I, at least that I know of.

DAYTONA FALLS SHORT IN SEASON FINALE 12-6

The Cubs Fell Behind Early And Ran Out of Steam Down the Stretch

September 5, 2005 - 12:15 AM

by: Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—For better or worse, the 2005 Daytona Cubs finally crossed the finish line at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Sunday evening.

But apparently the rival Brevard County Manatees wanted to make sure to get in one final lick before the lights were turned off and the gates were locked.

Just one day following a Cubs double-header sweep that knocked the Manatees out of playoff contention, Brevard County came out swinging and slugged their way to a 12-6 victory in the season finale.

Daytona stater Matt Weber (0-2) gave up seven earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, as Brevard County blew the game wide open in the third inning with a grand slam homerun from left fielder Josh Brady and never looked back.

The Cubs did give the fans something to cheer about in the fifth frame, as they scored five runs off of Manatee pitcher Eric Thomas. Scott Moore led the charge as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, to end the season with a .281 batting average and a team-leading 82 RBI’s.

Chris Walker also left his mark with a late-inning stolen base which brought his league-leading total of stolen bases to 60 which equaled his mark from last year with the Midwest League’s Lansing Lugnuts.

After using six different pitchers in the contest, it was Manatee lefty Jeremy Lewis (6-7) who was credited with the win after pitching 2.1 innings of shutout ball through the fifth and seventh innings to preserve the victory.

With the loss the Daytona Cubs finished the second half of the season at .500 with a record of 34-34, and an overall record of 69-66.

Finally, in the Eastern Division it was the Palm Beach Cardinals who clinched the second half title and they will do battle against the Vero Beach Dodgers in the Eastern Divisional best of three playoff series, as the Lakeland Tigers and Dunedin Blue Jays go head-to-head for the Western Division Title.

The championship series will feature the winner of both leagues in a best of five format.
