Wow, he actually goes in and finds each fundamental error the Braves and Cubs (mostly Cubs) make.

Sorry, insider only, but worth the read. Here's an exerpt:

Cubs' first: With a full count, leadoff hitter Matt Lawton, facing an inexperienced young pitcher known for his control problems (almost 4.5 walks per 9), swings at an outside pitch that clearly would have been ball four and tries to pull it. The fact that Lawton reached base on an error by pitcher Jorge Sosa doesn't make Lawton's poor judgment any more palatable. Sosa, covering first, dropped a routine throw from the first baseman.

Yeah i mean Lawton he just has no eye at the plate whatsoever. This is a bogus criticism. Is he supposed to be perfect. Whatta joke.

Well no, obviously even the best players make mistakes all the time. Obviously a good hitter will do the right thing only 30% of the time.

Lawton still has a ways to go to become what you call a "good hitter", let alone being perfect. Two walks in a month ??? Come on !!

Career

Nomar won a batting title, and is a career .320 hitter - should we bring him back for $10 million?

I'm not going to ignore the awful time Matt Lawton has spent in Chicago just because he's had a pretty decent career.

Yeah, what's his deal since joining the Cubs? Can we really chalk this up to "trying to do too much"? I mean, he's a what, .370 career OBP guy, taking 2 walks in a month. I just don't get it.

Yeah, a player with Lawton's career resume swinging at a pitch like that is far from a fundamental flaw.

That's not the point. Lawton having a bad 75 at bats doesn't make him less "fundamentally sound" than when he was with the Pirates. That's what the article is about, not predicting future performance.

The fact that Matt Lawton has walked twice since joining the Cubs (as well as the example in the article) are examples of him not playing fundametal baseball. I don't mean to say that he's not a fundamental/good player. But I am saying that he has been neither since August 1.

why don't they rip francoeur for not being a good fundamental hitter ? He has 1 walk in like 130 ABs. Oh wait he has had a good 130 ABs hes a future ALL STAR just like Bo Hart!!!!

WHo cares the fact is we all knwo that the Cubs are probably lead the league in lack of fundamentals. Lawton? A waste and wont be back so who cares. THe bigger problem is what are we going to do as a team about fundamentals? One thing is to fire the coaching staff including Dusty. I'm sure that would help just a bit.

One thing Dusty could do is play the kids. At least they're closer to Little- League age and probably remember how to play fundamental baseball.
