8/18 Other Games Thread

Philly beat the Nats in game 1 of the doubleheader today leaving them in sole possesion of 1st place in the WC race...for now. Washington just took a 5-4 lead in the 8th on a Carlos Baerga single and the Crapstros lead the Brewers 2-0 in the 4th. So if everything were to hold up, we'd still be 5 1/2 back, the Astros/Phillies would be tied for the WC lead with the Nats .5 back.

Go Nats! I knew the Phillies would blow the lead when they brought Urbina in. I have him on my fantasy team, and all pitchers on my team are required to suck except Mark Prior and Carlos Silva.

Zach Duke comes through with 7-innings of 2-hit ball for the Pirates, Mets go down 5-0, pulling the Cubs a half game closer to the Mets.

If everything finishes as it is now does that make the Cubs 5 games out? If things fall right tommorow they could be within 4? Clemens hasn't got much out of his offense lately........so sad.

If only it was so simple... its not the lead between the Cubs and the Phillies/Astros, its all the other teams between those 3.

5 losses out, we were 6 losses out at the beginning of the day from Astros/Nationals/Phils.

 

Still will be 5.5 behind Philly since they won and lost today (they've played one more game than we have to this point).

We'd still have teams in front of us, but if that 8-game skid was only even 5-games, we'd be tied with NYM at 2.5 back right now.

 

That 8-gamer will probly do the Cubs in, no matter how hard they try to push for the Wild Card between this weekend and the end of the year.

looking ahead to this weekend's matchups, a sweep of Colorado would be very much appreciated. The Nats play the Mets, so a best case scenario would be the Mets taking 2 of 3 from the Nats while a worst case scenario would be the Nats sweeping the Mets. Anything else would be ok too. The Astros face Milwaukee 3 more after today, so Milwaukee taking 2 of 3 from Houston would be great. The Phillies play the Pirates at Philadelphia this weekend. If Pittsburgh wins at least one game in that series, it would be a victory for us. Florida plays LA for a 4 game set, so let's hope for at least a split there. All in all, there's a lot of teams in front of us and it sucks having to keep track of this many teams :lol:

I don't think we have to worry about the Brewers stealing the Wild Card from us.
