Since you're bored, Nathan :D:

What was your first impression of Blackford and what did you think of Berg and Guzman in their second Chiefs appearance?

Thanks!

I was very impressed by Blackford. However, he threw 57 pitches and 51 of them were fastballs so I'd really have liked to see another pitch or two. But having said that, he shut down the best offense in the league over 5 innings with just a fastball that was 90-92.

Guzman got hit hard on Monday. He was encouraged though. I talked to him after the game and he was happy with his performace. He made a mistake on the HR but his fastball was good and he had more command with the curve than he did on Tuesday.

Berg's command on Monday was very sharp. He ran out of gas in the 9th inning but was very good through his first 3 innings. He moved the ball in and out and up and down. I expect he could be at the front of Peoria's rotation in 2006 along with Blackford. (and hopefully Pawelek!)

Who else do you anticipate being in Peoria's rotation next year besieds Berg, Blackford and Pawelek? I figure Donald Veal, Darin Downs , Jesus Yepez, Matt Avery and/or Scott Taylor all have a good chance.

This doesn't really do justice to the shaving cream carnage (I think Nathan had already wiped a good amount off before this picture was taken!), but it's the only picture I have right now. :)

LOL! who's that who's helping? Did you know it was coming?

Did peoria end up breaking the attendance record? Didn't they get screwed out of some home games when those games got rained out and then they played them in iowa? Do you get to share in the $$ they take in when that happens?

Nathan, if it's not a *huge* hassle, it would be great to get Gallagher's final pitch numbers for the following games:

4-8

4-14

4-20

4-26

5-1

5-6

5-16

5-22

5-27

6-11

6-17

7-7

7-18

8-28

Thanks!

I'll work on this tomorrow. My scorebook is still at the stadium

Jerry Blevins. He was taking care of my sunglasses and cleaning them. I thought it might be coming sometime over the weekend but not then because i had team president Rocky Vonachen on air with me. Turns out he was in on it as well though the plan was hatched by our strength guy Mitch Poche with aid from Trainer Matt Johnson and Julio Garcia.

We did break the attendance record. One of those 2 rainout we got to count because we opened gates and played 2 innings. So we got the suspended game and QC got the regularly scheduled game. There is a piece on the record breakers on the team website but we went from 254,407 to 256,612!!!! And if i do get a share (which i dont), i havent seen it yet!

It was funny, they all snuck up behind the two of them with the plates ... and, as you can see, there was widespread participation. :)

LOL, hard to get revenge when there's only one game left!

I read here that Jesse Estrada got the most improved award. What are the splits from early in the year and then later? Thanks.

How come they didn't win it in the first half? If you look at who was on the team it sure seems like they should have done better than they did.

They had the batting average leader and the era leader plus Gallagher is still leading in wins now I think, and he started off so good right away. I know Harvey was hurt and didn't play some in the first half but he's still leading in HRs and rbis now. Montanez had a good halfseason in Peoria before leaving and Shaver and Weber were solid even if Weber got cheated on some wins. Was it mainly becaues the bullpen was bad? Or maybe just bad luck?

Hope they can pull off the wild card now.

I'd say it was two things both equally as important: lack of clutch, timely hits and blow saves. The team has 21 blown saves on the year...11 were in the first half and two of those were against Clinton who did make the playoffs.

They also had a bunch of injuries. I'm sure that didn't help matters.

I have a question about Alberto Garcia. He looked really good when I saw him earlier in the year before got injured. I was actually most impressed with him out of the players on the field other than Gallagher. (Patterson and Harvey were on the DL at that time) First of all, how is his recovery going? Do you know where the organization plans to start him out next year? What did you think of his play earlier in the year? Were you as impressed with him as I was?

I didnt get an update on Alberto after the end of July. The original prognosis was that he would be out for 8-10 months so if thats accurate then he would just be getting ready to go at Spring training so I would guess they don't have a plan for him.

He was/is a very solid hitter at .316. But 1 home run in a half won't cut it at first base or third base which are his 2 natural positions. His defense was improving but not stellar.

I will be heading out to Arizona to visit form friends in early October and I plan on meeting up with our coaches and trainer from this year so I will see if I can get any more info on Alberto.

Nate,

To get those things to line up properly, you need to use the [ code ] ... [ /code ] feature. It will put everything in a monospaced font and retains the extra spaces. I usually type everything out into notedpad to see that it lines up properly, then I'll paste it between the tags and it works great.
