The Jaxx game may have to work around some rain. We're getting hit with some hard storms and the chance of scattered storms is 40-50% for Jackson. Granted, that also means there's a 50-60% chance that nothing will happen!

Chiefs out to a quick 2-0 start after a half-inning! Fuld with a lead-off single and Larsen with a triple ... Eric Patterson was robbed of a single and an RBI by the official scorer on a base hit up the middle that was scored an error.

2-2 after the first inning in South Bend. Gallagher walks 2 in the first inning and they both end up scoring.

Ryan Harvey is out of the lineup again with his hamstrings problem.

I've missed Aunt Florence, glad she's back.

Watch out NSBB, Ron has a Rodney Dangerfield impersonation to go along with Harry Caray

4-2 Silver Hawks, middle 4th. Carlos Gonzalez (SB) with a 2-run HR in the 3rd. Gallagher has walked 3; all have scored.

I believe he K'd 4 of the last 6 he faced. His PC will get him out of the game early. He's around 110 pitches.

Ouch, 7-2 Silver Hawks after 4.

Gallagher goes 4 1/3 and is knocked out by an Augustin Murilla solo HR.

Final line: 4.1IP, 4H, 5R, 5ER, 3/5

His ERA ---> 2.552

For the first time this season, Gallagher drops out of the ERA lead in the Midwest League. Andrew Sonnanstine of South Bend takes the lead with a 2.545 ERA. Sonnanstine was promoted in July, but he is over the minimum number of innings needed to qualify for the season MWL ERA title.

A Jesse Schmidt HR makes it 7-3 in the 5th.

DAYTONA TAKES OPENER IN GRAND FASHION 7-4

Cubs Shortstop Issmael Salas Came Off The Bench To Belt A Game-Winning Grand Slam In The Ninth

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—In a recent poll conducted by Baseball America, Vero Beach Dodgers closer Mark Alexander (4-3) was listed as the best reliever in the Florida State League in 2005.

Apparently somebody forgot to mention that to Issmael Salas on Tuesday night.

In Game 1 of a three-game set at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, Salas came off the bench for two late at-bats and stole the show in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off grand slam homerun, as the Cubs overcame an early 4-0 deficit to comeback and beat the powerhouse Dodgers in the series opener by a final of 7-4.

Cubs starter Juan Mateo overcame two shaky innings early, as the righty went seven full frames and gave up four runs on six hits while retiring 16 of the final 17 batters that he faced in the no-decision. .

Dodgers righty Danny Muegge had his stellar outing spoiled, as the Vero Beach starter pitched seven innings of three-hit shutout ball but did not factor in the decision after Alexander’s meltdown in the final frame.

Trailing 4-1 in the ninth, the Cubs bats came alive against the standout right-hander, as they scored seven runs on four hits, including three singles, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and then the game-winning slam from Salas that brought the fans to their feet.

Daytona southpaw Jordan Gerk (4-4) was credited with the win as he pitched the final two innings in shutout fashion while striking out two and lowering his ERA to 3.88.

With the victory the Cubs improved to 23-27 on the second half of the season, and the Dodgers fell to 31-19. Daytona will try to keep the momentum going as they continue to make their final push for a playoff spot on Wednesday night. Cubs lefty J.R. Mathes (8-7, 4.27 ERA) will toe the rubber as he squares off against Dodger righty Julio Pimentel (8-7, 4.00).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Quick reminder that now is the time to turn in your questions to Dopirak!

Ron said that Aaron Sisk's HR went around 400 ft (at least). To clear the clubhouse takes a shot. I wasn't at the park but I know that the weather we had here was similar to the conditions in Jackson, conditions that do not favor the hitters. Brandon Sing also hit a ball to deep center that would've left under different conditions.
