Enjoy some interesting comments from Gary Sheffield.

Some of my favorites:

"I know who the leader is on the team,"' Sheffield told the magazine. I ain't going to say who it is, but I know who it is. I know who the team feeds off. I know who the opposing team comes in knowing they have to defend to stop the Yankees.

"It happens because you're white and I'm black,'' Sheffield said. "My interpretation of things is different. You don't see it the way I see it. You write how you understand it, how you would articulate it, not how I, as a black man, would articulate it.''

I won't argue about his stats, but comments like that to me seem like another distraction the Yankees can't afford.

I read that article and am kinda confused as to who he thinks the team leader is. Does he think that it's himself? I can't think of anyone else on that team that the other team would "fear."

I don't know if he's referring to himself as "the leader" of the team, but I know who which two guys I would pitch around if the game were on the line:

Matsui & A Rod - in that order

Sheffield in Chicago would be another Sosa situation. I doubt Hendry will pursue Sheffield in the offseason after reading his words, but I don't doubt that Sheffield will be shopped around and someone will take him.

I almost get the feeling that if he would get traded to some team he didn't want to play for that he'd just retire from baseball.

The guy's had an attitude and a chip on his shoulder ever since he came up with the Brewers.
