now we're on to something.

These guys are marginal players. Why not let marginal prospects with upside start over them. No one would be asking to play Choi ahead of Lee, but it was stinking Karros!

I dunno, there sure was a lot of angst when Choi was traded for Lee.

And much of that was due to age/salary concerns. But you are right, Choi performed worse than expected, and Lee has obviously gone above and beyond anyone's expectations.

Should have been more specific. My point was that noone is calling to play these guys over guys who are tearing it up, ala Lee's current numbers. We're asking that the kids play over the marginal guys, see also: Neifi.

Fair enough. And you are absolutely correct in that assertion. You do have to take the players oldcubsfan mentioned in the context of who they were sitting behind, no question.

Still, there's also no doubt that some folks don't just overvalue our propsects, they do so almost to the point of being as blind to their shortcomings as Dusty is to those of his veteran players, imo.

At any rate, I don't want to rehash all of those old arguments any more than anyone else does, so I'll shut up now. :D

Harris over Macias (at 3b last year) anyday of the week

Cedeno over Perez...they're the same player now, only one's 22.

Choi over Karros (at that stage of his career)

Hill over Delino DeShields (everyday of the week, twice on sundays)

Dubois...well...maybe over Hollandsworth...idk.

Thing is, at the time those choices looked like obvious ones...and personally, I think they still do. None of them was a significant downgrade, and they all had some good upside to them.

I guarantee no one wants Harris at 3b over Ramirez, Choi over Lee, Hill over Walker....but at the time, I still think they were the right choice.

The official moves:

Activated shortstop Nomar Garciaparra and pitcher Scott Williamson from the 60-day disabled list and pitcher Kerry Wood from the 15-day disabled list; placed infielder-outfielder Jerry Hairston on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow injury; optioned pitcher Sergio Mitre to Iowa of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); designated pitcher Mike Remlinger for assignment.

C'mon, let's try to be positive...

Didn't Lawton play CF with Pitt? Why not put him in center, Burnitz in right and Murton/Hollandsworth in left. I would rather Hollandsworth play then Macias. But, I would rather have Murton play over Hollandsworth. Just my opinion.

Lawton hasn't played CF in a long time. I think we'd be better off with Burnitz in CF. I'm interested to see tonight's lineup.

Are you really? I think I'll slam my head through a window.

Here's what I want:

Lawton RF

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Nomar SS

Burnitz CF

Murton LF

Barrett C

or

Lawton LF

Walker 2B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz CF

Nomar SS

Murton 1B (give lee a day off)

Barrett C

Holly RF

IT probably will be:

Lawton

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Nomar

Macias

Barrett

Which I guess wouldn't be awful either.
