i'll be going to the chiefs game tonight, and will probably see more heart and actuall baseball skill from the early 20 somethings than this collection.

sigh

All about the 54's, 54-54 with 54 left (plus however many playoff games it takes to get to 11 wins  )

*sigh* This just ain't gettin it done :-(.

I'm not terribly surprised by anything anymore (well except for how we lost yesterday), but I AM continually disappointed.

When I was 18 I used to chuckle after I told someone I was a Cubs fan and they told me I'd never see them win a WS in my lifetime. I turned 42 a few days ago..... I'm getting way too close to being halfway there to suit me!!!

I'd love to see the organization take one series of years and say "to hell with the budget, let's just go out there and sign 2-3 top free agent players and spend a couple years REALLY going for it!!!"

I'm usually pretty optimistic, but in IMO, this team just won't catch Houston. We'll likely fall 6 games behind them today and I don't see us making up that kind of ground. This team is just too inconsistent...they can look real good for a stretch of games and then fall flat on their face. Seriously, it seems like we keep getting 2 or 3 games above .500 and then lose 2 or 3 in a row and fall right back down to that mark. MAYBE things will turn around with the return of Nomar, Williamson and Wood tomorrow but, I don't see Wood doing much for us out of the pen, Baker has said he wants to play Neifi even with Nomar back, and Williamson isn't going to be at 100%. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Did the pitchers all run over to cover the bag today?

There has to be more patience. That can't be stressed enough, but the pitching sure didn't help today.

Overall, I think the pitching killed todays game, their offense did ok.

I thought they showed a lot of heart. They just aren't very good. I don't know how people can say that they didn't show heart.

But then again, when the cubs lose, every pessimistic fan exaggerates.

The last time we didn't have to come back in the 8th to win or hold on for dear life in the 9th was the 16 games ago vs. Cincinnati.

We lost the last 2 vs. Cin

We lost the first vs. Stl

We won the second vs. Stl hanging onto dear life

We won the third vs. Stl after coming back one down in the 8th and recovering from a blown save

We won the first vs. SF with an 8th inning rally

We lost the second vs. SF

We won the third vs. SF with an 8th inning rally

We lost the first vs. Ari

We won the 2nd vs. Ari with a 9th inning rally

We lost the last 2 vs. Ari

We won the first vs. Philly hanging onto dear life

We lost the last 2 vs. Philly

Back to .500. Sigh.

Which is right about where this disgraceful bunch belongs.

Darn you Dusty. You've sucked all the joy out of watching this ballclub.

I hope you're selling real estate back in San Francisco in a few weeks. Good freakin' riddance.

I think today's game caps the height of anger and pessimism. Prior was on the mound, and really everyone expected a well pitched game.

He got batted around, and our main stud gets beaten. I think thats why people are moreso angry today, they expected Prior to be dialed in.

I don't look at it as catching up with any team. I look at it as playing some good baseball and things will take care of themselves. Now I admit they are not playing well but once Wood, Nomar and CPatt are back it should get interesting.

I think they tried that last year. It backfired miserably.

Our starter gave up 6 runs and left in the 5th. The Bullpen blanked them so it wasn't all bad.

This team is just too inconsistent.

Actually this team is very consistent. It's hovered around .500 for the majority of the season. They've been no more than what? Six games over and no worse than five under all year I think. That's consistent. Mediocre, but consistent.

The fans need to let them have it when they get home. I mean seriously let them have it. They deserve it. Especially Dusty.

So in a nutshell this team is terribly inconsistent and underachieving. Call me John Madden, master of the obvious.

Which top free agents did they go out and sign???

Traded for Derrek Lee, traded for Michael Barrett, signed LaTroy Hawkins, signed Greg Maddux (Not to mention Kent Mercker). And when it still wasn't working correctly, they traded for Nomar.

That's a huge upgrade for a team that was 5 outs from the WS the prior year.

But then it'll hurt thier feelings and they'll all run away crying.
