And Van Buren with another perfect ninth...TWO k's.

I really hope that Jermaine gets a chance with the Big League club someday. He's dominated both Double A and Triple A.

OH My, Leicester had a not horrible outing his last start and so far tonight he is 6IP, 3H, 1BB, OR, 3K.... Is the ice man back???? (EDIT.. I think I jinxed him probably as I typed that he gave up a solo shot, but still 7IP 1R is alot better than he's been doing)

CPatt is 0-3 with 2K :x

not a usual poster here, but...

The Cubs scored the decisive run in the ninth inning, when Corey Patterson walked to lead off the inning. Patterson then stole second base and advanced to third when Portland catcher Nick Trzesniak’s throw sailed into centerfield. David Kelton’s fielder’s choice ground ball scored Patterson to give the Cubs the lead.

Just got back from I-Cubs 2-1 win in Portland. A few observations...

Corey worked the count in his first AB then lined a hard out to RF. In his middle 2 AB's he looked, well...horrible...striking out on the usual slow stuff after a couple foul balls. Leading off the ninth, patient at the plate , took a 3-2 ball for a walk, had a great jump on a steal and advanced to 3rd on the throw into center. After a SO, he scored on a FC that should have been a double play ball hit by Kelton - wide throw to second - for the winning run.

Scott Williamson (he looks very small on the mound) worked a quick 8th inning for the win. 1st pitch groundout, 3rd pitch groundout, and a nice SO for a 1-2-3 inning. He looked like he had a nice fastball going - there was no posted radar gun at the game.

JvB looked great again. I swear he's channeling Zambrano with that number 38 on the mound. He's got some presence out there. He took the first 2 hitters to 3-2 counts with a borderline called 3rd strike against the #8 hitter and a deep flyout to the PH. He got the last out with a nasty offspeed pitch that had the hitter with a weak defensive swing. He looks like a big league closer out there (maybe if he could throw a few more strikes though...).

Leicester looked great except for a 7th inning HR. He was in command the whole game, helped out by a few key DP's.

I'll be at the finale against Portland tomorrow, Williamson is due to pitch again.

Woohoo, Harvey is still hot-hot-hot

his hot streak coincides with serena getting me da autograph...coincidence?

Harvey needs to have an amazing game tomorrow night...I'll be there :D Have been meaning to get to a game all year, but with Kerry in town (for 2 Innings, even better) it was too good to pass up. I've been wanting to see Harvey mainly, but also guys like Patterson and Gallagher...

Obviously NOT (a coincidence)!

Garcia looked pretty good when I saw him player earlier in the year. So good that he was one of the few that stood out to me. (This was when EPatt and Harvey were out, though)

I picked him as a potential breakout player this year. I did see him one time last year when Lansing came to Peoria. He never really showed a ton of power, which for a corner IF/OF guy, isn't a good sign. I did like what he did with the bat though. A solid hitter.

And the other player I picked to breakout this year was Jose Reyes...lol...oops. If he can hit .250, however, he'd be an amazingly good backup catcher, lol. Henry Blanco-esque...only less pop.

Do you have any qualitative feel for how Leiecester's fastball looked? He was a power pitcher last year, but had shoulder trouble earlier this year. Was he able to throw a pretty solid fastball, as far as you could tell without radar?

Maybe ditto for JVB? Does he throw a solid fastball, or pretty much sinker/slider/nibble?

Thanks for the report.

For others:

1. Does anybody know what's been up with Leiecester this year, hear anything about his shoulder problem, know how his velocity has been, or hear anything about why he's struggled so much?

2. Have anybody heard any velocity reports on Brownlie since he had his sore shoulder DL and moved to relief?
